Welcome! This forum has a treasure trove of great info – Scouters helping Scouters! Just a heads up, though - all content, information, and opinions shared on this forum are those of the author, not the BSA.
I have a leader who had let his Safeguarding Youth Training expire because he does not have a computer. He was removed from Scoutbook. We have helped him complete his Safeguarding Youth Training. Now we need to have him added back to Scoutbook. How can we get this accomplished?
@JaredMcReynolds OK but they are an XO - I am not sure XOs go into scoutbook usually as it is a non-functional, non-direct contact role. Heck I am rather certain SYT is not even needed for it. I setup a sync but am not sure they user will go into SB.
He is also an assistant scoutmaster, charter rep, and troop committee member. He used to be in Scoutbook. I really just need him in there for communication purposes. And so I can show that I have certain roles assigned.
Yes, he is the XO for a pack. He is also involved with the troop. Do you know if he is allowed to hold positions in both the pack and the troop? Not the XO position but some other position.
@JaredMcReynolds - then he would be the XO for the trop if under the same charter organization. I would think that this question is best asked of your local council
These are good questions for your District Exec. Generally, individuals can be registered in multiple units, and only pay the council and national fees for the “primary” registration. However, other than the COR, individuals can only be registered in one position per unit. The COR can be COR and CC or COR and MC, but that’s the extent of multiple positions within a unit to my knowledge. Again, your council or DE can help clarify this with the most current information.
When this happened to us he was automatically removed from his BSA membership. The system allowed him to retake the YPT certification without being a member. Our scouter had to reapply to BSA after this happened.
If only registered as the executive officer {aka Institution Head (IH)} Safeguarding Youth Training is not required, although recommended. That would not been the reason he dropped from your roster. It could be that his registration expired and needs to be renewed. IH is a no fee position, but they still need to be renewed annually based on their expiration date.
If registered in other positions and SYT expired, it possible his membership was suspended by your local Council. Contact your Council to find out. Suspend and unsuspend are a manual process. Once suspended, just taking SYT does not automatically unsuspend you.
