Calendar Event Import

This is a feature we had via the “unsupported” extension in the SB Legacy, but has been rendered useless as far as I can tell now that the calendar has been removed from SB Legacy. We currently have over 100 events for the calendar to add and entering them one by one is a major issue due to time constraints on leadership as well as the potential for human error in manual entry.

I truly believe this is an essential feature that every calendar application should have available.

A basic CSV import or a method to pull from a Google Calendar would suffice. Alternatively if there was an API available for SB+ I could develop my own import process or sync system…

@CurtisNess

There is a story in the backlog to add this capability. We do not know when or if this will be scheduled for development work.

Watch Scoutbook - Scoutbook Plus Change Log - Scouting Forums for an announcement of a fix.

So how do we get this more attention to get it on the roadmap? I can’t be the only one with this issue.

Note the organization recommends using supported means for communicating to the members of the pack and density. This is one method that has a large hindrance to data entry and loss of features that were available on legacy (although unsupported, they were still there)…

If it can’t be voted up or raised awareness, is there any plans to open an API to allow third parties to expand on the feature set of SB+?

Unfortunately, the only way to get more momentum behind it is likely to push on this rope via the the council professional staff. The council professionals can submit tickets to national and advocate for changes to the system via their channels.

Scouting America has previously stated (via the SUAC) that there is no plan to provide an API for general access. There are some specific third-party vendors that they work with, but that interface seems to be less API and more “upload data file”. I haven’t seen anything in their published roadmap that specifically mentions opening up an API, so my expectation is that it’s likely still a “no”.

@CurtisNess

I personally do not believe this will be done in the foreseeable future. There are a lot of very high priority issues coming down from the Scouting higher ups that are taking the attention of Scouting America IT. These issues include changes to the recharter and registration processes so that all units and members expires on 2/28, Scoutconnect and several other projects. Calendar import is behind all of these and probably others that I have not heard about.
