Welcome! This forum has a treasure trove of great info – Scouters helping Scouters! Just a heads up, though - all content, information, and opinions shared on this forum are those of the author, not the BSA.
Have a user whose scoutbook account is working fine. It shows his posistion with correct council strip on the top of his account page. The bottom of his page shows the wrong council. When he goes into edit profile the council dropdown includes all the councils around us but not GGAC 023 His address and zip are in the council
023 council number was renamed with the council merger, which you already know… Is MDSC 023 showing in the drop down?
Different councils displayed top and bottom
Is the zip code on a council border? It is possible to have the same USPS Zip Code™ or ZIP Code Tabulation Areas (ZCTAs) in two different councils. It is possible to have multiple USPS Zip Codes in a ZCTA. Which is to say, both location (e.g. town name) and zip code are needed to determine which council a mailing address is in…
If computer program is trying to map a USPS zip code to a single council that may not work for the above stated reasons.
The post office for a location may be in a different location many miles away especially in rural areas.
Data entry error in a system file might also be an issue.
My best guess is that the computer program logic is using two different databases to determine the top and bottom council name and/or is not testing for both location name and zip code.
@RonFedele I don’t think this is the root cause, but this leader has current registrations as Assistant Den Leader, Lion Guide, and Assistant Webelos Den Leader all in the same pack. Not sure how this happened, but Recharter should not have allowed it.
When I change my state and zip code, your council does come up as an option on the Edit Profile page, so I think there’s some issue with his account.
Try having him temporarily change his state code and zip code to something else. Then change it back, and see if your council comes up as an option.
