Can't Link Own Child As Cubmaster

I was trying to get all of my Scouting history and numbers tied to a singular My.Scouting account. I did not add my child initially due to this (my wife registered him under her My.Scouting account). I am now the Cubmaster for my child’s pack, and I keep getting the following notification:

Relationship Verification Needed

Your relationship to the following youth needs to be validated.

Please contact the youth’s other Parent/Guardian or unit leader to add you to the youth.

I have followed the steps to send an invite from my wife’s account to my own, but I keep running into an issue with the process finalizing. I have called my council and spoken with the gal who normally fixes every Scoutbook Plus issue, but she is unable to add me as a parent to my child’s account. Please help me figure out how to get this link correctly finalized.

My Scouting id: 142078856

My child’s Scouting id: 141834283

Thank you for the help.

@BenjaminRead

Your wife should be able to add the relationship between you and your child. Alternately your Council can use the relationships tab of Registrar Tools to do so.

The message is because you have a hanging Parent/Guardian connection to him in legacy Scoutbook.

@BenjaminRead - it would be via the relationships section on the scout profile page in advancements.scouting.org

Click on the Plus

Thank you for that insight! Removing the link in Legacy Scoutbook cleared up that notification when logging on.

I think the disconnect was that we had never logged into Scoutbook with my wife’s account! That was all it took to get things corrected! Thank you for all the help!

@BenjaminRead - ah.. glad it is all sorted.

@BenjaminRead

I still recommend you get the relationship added in Akela (the person database) by either asking your wife to click the + under your son’s relationships or contacting your Council. As a leader, you want the Parent/Child relationship for your son as well as your leader role.

@edavignon

I am not sure what you mean when you refer to Akela (the person database). Are you referring to My.Scouting or to Advancement.Scouting (Scoutbook plus)? Or is that another program altogether?

I went into Scoutbook Plus with my wife’s account and clicked the relationship button to add myself. I received an e-mail with a verification link and clicked it to approve the relationship. Is there another step to finalize the relationship?

Thank you for your help.

@BenjaminRead

Akela is the database that holds all registrations. Members do not have direct access to it.

I now see a relationship in Akela between you and your son so the process you went through on your wife’s account was successful.
