Commissioner College –– Local Council Courses

Crowdsourcing –– The academic deans group for our upcoming COCS have raised the question about creating local council course(s) that will address issues/concerns of commissioners within our council not specifically addressed the the national courses. What, if any, are the national guidelines for writing local council courses? What guidelines have others used in creating such courses for their COCS?

Hi, David - National has made provisions for custom local courses. They assigned the BCS2xx numbers to the bachelor level local courses, MCS4xxx to Masters level and DCS6xx numbers to Doctoral courses. Go to the College of Commissioner Science page: https://www.scouting.org/commissioners/training/college/ At the bottom, you will find the College of Commissioner Science Resource Folder link: https://filestore.scouting.org/filestore/commissioner/zip/ccs/CCS-Resource-Folder.zip.

Inside that folder, you will find a document call “Chapter 4 - Commissioner College”. Pages 25-27 address your question. One thing to watch out for is that some Councils may not accept the courses for transfer credit, but that shouldn’t be a problem within your own council.

Hope this helps.

Thank you. This is helpful
