One of the most useful features of the Custom Reports is building reports showing the advancement status of the entire troop and being able to share those reports so that all leaders can use them. However, neither Advancement Chairs nor ASMs are not able to access Shared Custom reports and Advancement Chairs can’t even access the report builder.
I would like to propose giving permissions access to Shared reports to ASMs and Advancement Chairs, and giving Advancement Chairs access to report Builder. Alternatively, if is was possible for the troop to give permissions to specific reports to specific positions, that would also resolve the issue.
I tend to agree with you that the lack of access to shared reports for ASMs is a strange omission. The units can specify which reports get shared, so that should logically provide enough local control to manage what ASMs have access to.
I’m not as clear about the Advancement Chair situation, though.

For advancement chairs, the unit Key 3 could potentially provide them with the “Unit Support” position, although that likely generates far more access than would otherwise be needed. That said, it seems like the Advancement History report might get your Advancement Chair what they’re looking for? It probably depends on the details of what you’re trying to achieve for the AC with the custom report.
Specifically for our troop I have a custom report for each rank which shows each Scout and which requirements they have and have not completed. It’s very easy to look at the reports to see what topics we need to focus on to cover missing requirements for the most scouts, and they are very helpful for the Advancement coordinator to see who is close to making a rank and what they are still missing. Currently I have to print copies for everyone to use due to the permissions limits.
@ChristopherKelly8 - all that has to happen is provide them the functional role that works for shared reports. The ASM already can generate their own reports. The gradient for access is that not every unit runs the same way. In some units all that the UAC does is purchase advancement items. Your change would provide access that not all units want.
@Stephen_Hornak I’m specifically requesting that the roles for shared reports be expanded because currently only the Key 3 (and key 3 delegate) can access shared reports. If you think it is not appropriate to give access to the Advancement Coordinator due to some level of data protection that is fine. However, for ASMs, if they can build their own reports using the same tools, why can’t they access shared reports? There is no additional data protection provided by blocking them from accessing Shared Reports.
@ChristopherKelly8 - the role of unit and sub unit support would grant the asm and uac access to shared reports without modifications to existing structure. This allow you to accomplish what you want without imposing it on every single unit with your proposed change. That is what I was stating. A global rights change is literally that..it hits every unit whether they want it or not.
In the end its a scouts task to figure out their advancement
