I entered some partially-completed merit badges from summer camp, and would like to print the blue cards so the scouts know what requirements remain.
When I do a bulk print of blue cards it prints the requirement number/letter and date completed for those that were completed. However, it does not print requirements that were not completed. For example, if requirement 7 and 9 were completed, but 8 still needs to be done, I would like it to print lines for requirements 7, 8, and 9, and leave the date field blank on number 8 so the scout/leaders know that one still needs done. Right now, it just skips over 8 altogether.
I realize there is a similar post on this topic from 2019, but I figure that was related to Legacy Scoutbook, so thought I would ask again.
Thanks,
Eric
@EricYoung1 - an even better thing is the scouts themselves look at their own record and see what is remaining for ranks and merit badges
I can see situations where this could be confusing. For example, what’s the intended behavior for your request when incomplete requirements are of the form “Do X of the following Y options:”? Should the system print all Y options? Could this potentially imply that all of these options most be completed before the merit badge is complete?
Similarly, if the system only prints all requirements when the requirements are deterministic (i.e. when there is only one path to completion, and it is through completion of all listed requirements), could that cause confusion?
I can’t say for sure how the decision was made to print the way it does currently, but it mirrors the way most blue cards I’ve completed for scouts over the years are written. Scout A completes requirements 1, 6a, 6b, and 8. Those get signed off. Then they finish 6c and 7. Those get signed off. I generally don’t add all of the requirements as blanks and just sign them off as they get finished.
Scoutbook Plus does not print incomplete requirements because some Merit Badges would require 3 or 4 Blue Cards to list all requirements. If Scouts want to know what remains, they should log in to Scoutbook Plus and look directly or compare the printed Blue Card with the requirements that can be found at All Merit Badges A-Z | Scouting America
Scoutbook Plus will overflow to multiple Blue Cards if the number of completed requirements does not fit on a single card. There are no plans to change the behavior to print incomplete requirements on multiple cards.
