I am an assistant scoutmaster and I am trying to review which of our adults are actually registered at merit badge counselors in our council. We are wanting to track all of our counselors and their training. I could access a merit badge counselor list when I was SM, but now that I am ASM, I can’t seem to access it Can the merit badge counselor list be made available to more people? I don’t understand why that access is so limited. Thank you.
@MargaretKinney The MB Counselor List search function is available in Scoutbook (legacy) for ASMs and most other registered adult leaders (except: Unit Scouter Reserve and Unit College Scouter Reserve).
If you want access to training, it’s probably better to use the Training Manager at my.Scouting. You would need someone to make you the Unit Training Chair or a Key 3 Delegate there.
The Guide to Advancement limits access to the MBC lists. Legacy Scoutbook actually opens the list up to more leaders than it should.
If you are wanting to validate training for every MBC in your Council or every MBC that works with one of your Scouts, I would say that is outside of your unit’s responsibility. The Legacy Scoutbook list and coming Scoutbook Plus list will not show a MBC that has expired Safeguarding Youth Training. If you want to see who is an MBC and also registered in your unit, you can use the Roster Report under Custom Reports in Scoutbook Plus.

@EricChang2 as an ASM you would not have that permission by default - your Key 3 would need to grant it to you if they wanted you to have it.
A major focus of the migration to Scoutbook Plus is to have positions mirror the positions shown in My.Scouting to ensure positions were reflected accurately in both platforms. The main purpose it to honor the guidance of our charter organizations and the positions they approve. Therefore, Scoutbook Plus does not use Legacy Scoutbook positions. Registered positions are used to provide base permissions. Some additional permissions can be added by the unit, however, there are restrictions on what can be given. Thanks for this helpful discussion. Related question: As SM I have enabled permission for one ASM to search the MBC list (under Advancement “MBC Search – Search for an MBC”). She successfully can see names of counselors for certain badges. But she cannot access their contact information the way I can. When she clicks “show contact details” an error message pops up, whereas for me as SM the email address of the MBC is visible. Is it possible for her as an ASM with specific permissions to view email addresses of MBCs she finds on the list?

Is there an easy way to simply create a report to list the MBC and their associated MBs on a troop level? As SM, I need to find an easy way to determine which of our registered adults have registered for particular MB so we can find more adults in troop to support the scouts.
I previouslly had a custom Roster Builder report for this but it doesn’t seem to work anymore. It was great but now new MBCs/MB are not being reflected.
I just ran such a custom report now, and it worked fine. Maybe try clearing cache and see if that “shakes it loose”?

My report uses this checkbox; I ran it multiplie times (in private/incognito) mode but still it’s not reflecting the latest MB updates made on our troop.
@Shing_ChiPoon - merit badge assignments are a district/council process. What updates are you talking about. Beyond that the best practice is for the scouts to go outside of the unit for merit badge counselors
Some of my adults updated their list of MBs to cover. So I want to see a consolidated list of MBC reflecting their latest MBs.
Adults cannot update their own MB assignment. They must contact the Council and request the Council make the change. It they have done this and it is not yet reflected in Scoutbook, they someone needs to contact the Council to follow up.
If you provide the Scouting America Member ID (no names) for some of these MBCs we can look in the DB to determine what MBs they counsel.
The adults already wrote to our Council to make updates two weeks ago. I just want to see those changes in a report. Our Council has no idea why my custom report for MBC isn’t generating properly with the updates.
The Council may not have changed the MB assignments in the database. That’s why I requested Scouting America Member ID (no names) for some MBCs that requested MBs be added.
