Link to Scoutbook / Internet Advancement contains malware

Closing my pc down yesterday and my Norton popped up with a screen indicating my link to Scoutbook / Internet Advancement contained malware and was quarantined. Link was made by copying the link directly from URL: https://advancements.scouting.org/.

@MarkLederer - what is bsa-internet advancement.url ? I would think it should have listed the correct url for advancements.scouting.org

Generally speaking, link Trojans, of which this appears to be a variant based on your screenshot, act on the client computer, not the web host. They replace what started as a saved link with a trojan that either carries or downloads a malware payload of some sort. They may still leave the link itself “functional” to conceal the intrusion for as long as possible.

I would suggest a thorough antivirus/anti-malware scan on your local machine, since it seems more likely to be a local issue than a scouting.org issue.

Thanks. It appears they were “old” links to the previous Internet Advancement. I’ve done a complete anti-virus/malware scan and it’s clean.

I guess that’s good? I’m a bit puzzled why the anti virus would have identified that as a trojan, but that’s not my field of expertise, so I’ll chalk it up to “just because”.

I am a bit concerned that there were links to the old IA at advancements.scouting. Where did you encounter them in SB+, if you recall? That might help the development team flush them out.

@MarkLederer - having used scoutbook, the new internet advancement and the old scoutnet system for years on a work pc in a data center I have never once had any of the url’s flagged for any reason. And the fact that nobody else has noted this issue I am convinced this is something local to how you are operating your pc.
