[macOS/Safari] UI issues make patrol assignments extremely tedious

As I understand it, the way patrol assignment is supposed to work is that when looking at the roster grouped by patrol, you see a little edit pencil for each patrol. Then you click on that and get to move Scouts around in a dedicated UI.

In desktop mode, the edit pencil for the patrols are all jammed into the (same) wrong row, so even if you know where to click, you can’t control which patrol you end up editing.

In mobile (resize the window to be narrow) you get the right pencil placement, BUT, the resulting UI messes up where the currently assigned and unassigned Scouts are, so it’s still not possible to make the correct assignments.

The workaround is to go to mobile view (narrow window) to edit the patrol, and then switch to desktop mode by making the window wider to get the other edit UI.

I’ve tried both Safari and Chrome for macOS and get the same issue in both browsers. EDIT: Looks like Chrome is actually OK, problem may be limited to Safari.

@KristopherGiesing - I just tried my mac at work and this is what I see

Re-launched chrome and this is the same

It would seem to me that you have a browser setting causing this. I have a zoom setting of 100%

@KristopherGiesing

Post a screen shot of what you are seeing without Scout names.

@KristopherGiesing

I was able to reproduce a display issue in Safari but not Chrome on my Mac. Another SUAC member reproduced a display issue in Firefox on a Mac.

But the pencil one you are talking about - I am not sure of - still need a screenshot

I was able to replicate it in safari but not in chrome or firefox on my studio mac.

Here’s a screenshot of the first issue. However, I tried again on Chrome and it looks OK, so I think I was wrong about that part. (I originally tested this a few weeks ago before I learned about these forums; apologies for the confusion.)

Here’s a screenshot of the 2nd issue. The patrol already has Scouts in it, but they are shown as Available instead of in the patrol. The actual Available Scouts are not shown at all.

@KristopherGiesing - if that is safari I see that same result. I do not ever use safari for scouting.org stuff

If Safari is not supported then there should be a browser check at the log in page.

As a decades long mac user - I use safari for nothing - it is what IE used to be.

Please don’t turn a technical issue into a browser flame war.

@KristopherGiesing - do the edit patrol screens look normal in chrome

Yes, both screens look normal in Chrome.

@KristopherGiesing - well there is the fix then

@KristopherGiesing

We have reported the rendering issue. Watch Scoutbook - Scoutbook Plus Change Log - Scouting Forums for an announcement of a fix.

I sent you a private message as the SUAC needs the full screen shot of the issue with scouts showing Available but already in the patrol.

Using Chrome is one workaround. Switching window sizes is another (as I posted originally).

I logged this issue because I wanted to improve the user experience for other Scouters. I don’t particularly appreciate getting lectured to about my choice of browser. I am surprised to find this thread falling so short of my expectations for civil online discourse.

@KristopherGiesing - do you see the 3 lines after a patrol name in the roster list ? If so that also gets you to edit patrol. Oddly enough the edit patrol screen looks normal for me in safari.
