Merge Member ID question

Is merge member ID option only available when the IDs are from two different councils? I have two IDs currently on my profile but don’t see any option to merge them.

@RobertReeves2 the 2 have differences - one has a Middle Initial and one does not - so the MIDs were forced into management, that might be why they do not show for merge.

Okay. I was just curious. What do you mean by “forced into management?”

It is likely the email - change MID > go to profile > add the MID to the one that is not primary

I already see both numbers when I select “manage member ID.”

@RobertReeves2 yes change the primary > then go to profile and add the Email. Then you should be prompted to merge.

Manage MID wants certain info (First Name, Last Name, DOB) to match. Maybe Middle name. But admins can force it to “These are the same person” even if the data does not match up.

Ah, okay. I just tried it. Successfully added the email to the other number. No prompt to merge yet when I go back to manage member id though.

might take 24 hours to get through all the systems. On your Member IDs I see nothing that would be a benefit to merge the data. The one just has a handful of leader registrations from 98-03

Thanks. My real reason for asking is that I am a council training chair and I want to understand how it all works. Also, I have a new leader applicant in my unit who it seems created two my.scouting accounts. One when completing the adult application and one when taking Safeguarding Youth Training. So, we can’t approve the application because it says they SYT was “never taken.” I tracked down both member IDs and had her add the additional one to her profile. Waiting overnight didn’t get the training to transfer over. Now I have asked her to switch the primary and wait another day. Should that work? It seems that she doesn’t have the option to merge either.

in Manage MID > training flows TO the Primary MID over a 24 hour period.

On the MID Merge - SUAC does not advise it to be used at this point as there are still issues especially with Scout accounts.

What do you mean you Added the Member ID to account? with what tool?

She did it. With the Manage Member ID tool.

Yes, set the other member ID number as primary and leave it there for about 10 minutes, then she can switch it back. The training should get copied onto her primary member ID number within 24 hours.

No … my wife had a MemberID from her 1st marriage, stopped volunteering during her divorce, and resumed after getting married to me. Because the last names didn’t match up, our council gave her a new MemberID. We just linked the two IDs onto the same My.Scouting account several years ago. We just use the MergeMemberID process to link her accounts together.
