For some reason I am missing half of the scheduled dates I put on the Unit calendar? Seems that it could be related to the Event Type? I have been monitoring this for a few days thinking that a sync overnight would fix it but it hasn’t yet. Please investigate.
- Subunit meetings are missing starting on 9/15.
- A “camping” type that we dropped on 10/9-10/11 is showing on Scouting app but not in SB+?
- An “Adult Training” type on 10/24 is in SB+ but not in the Scouting app.
- “Other” event type on 11/21 is showing in both SB+ and Scouting app.
We heavily market the Scouting app to parents for tracking their scout and unit stuff. Plus I really like the way the Scouting app shows calendar details easily where SB+ makes you open the event to see the details.
@TJCline I strongly advise against the Scouting App - just use the website for several reasons.
Currently the Scouting app only shows what you ARE invitee too.
The Camping event is different. It could be the apps cache, but we can look at that.
Well, it’s not because I am not invited to the event, I checked that. I also show no updates in the app store for my version 2.7.22. Please look into the apps cache if you can or tell me how I can.
I am discouraged that you mention you are advising against a tool we have that has increasingly gotten better over the years. Yes, it takes some work to get it set up correctly for parents, but I usually manage to make it work. Once it’s set up it works great for parents. I understand greatly that it’s a “Parent App” and that is exactly what we use it for. My leaders understand the difference.
@TJCline yes it looks like some issue was found - Scouting America IT does not release schedules. Watch the Scoutbook - Scouting App Change Log - Scouting Forums for an announcement of the fix.
We recommend that instead of using the Scouting App for the calendar, use the ice subscription capability to have the calendar appear on the iCal of Google Calendar on the parents mobile device.
Great point! The ics link helps put calendar events on the personal calendar of the parent but for Apple it’s a jumbled up mess, no paragraphs, bullets, and missing hyperlinks from the SB+ event.
I do use this ics subscription feature but honestly I don’t think most understand how to set it up.
I am circling back and will test it more over the next few days to see if those events come back. Not sure what could be stopping them from syncing from SB+ to Scouting mobile app.
Is IT supporting the Scouting app going forward in its landscape of scouting software?
@TJCline
It is a resource issue. Scouting America IT does not have an unlimited development budget and with upcoming program changes such as universal Member ID, registrations moving to a single expiration date, etc. the development team has other priorities.
Thanks for your insights, we will start redirecting families to SB+ instead of the red Scouting app this year.
