Scoutbook issues 31

Hello, we have a parent who is able to go into scoutbook and award merit badges to her son.

I thought only admin could update scoutbook and even then cannot access their own child’s records.

Thank you,

James

@JamesGibson5 - are you certain that they are actually being marked as awarded. Is this parent also a registered leader ?

Parent is listed as committee member only, and yes, marking MB’s completed even when they are not. We found out when we saw he had earned Cit in Society after it was discontiniued

@JamesGibson5

What is the parent’s Scouting America Member ID (no names)?

12872002 is the parents ID

@JamesGibson5 - completed is not the same as approved. If completed it is no different than a scout marking things their handbook and leadership would either approve or not.

@JamesGibson5

I checked the DB and this leader does not have approval permissions. Do you see audit data showing this leader approved advancement?

@JamesGibson5 Putting in an End date and the item being completed is what any Scout or parent can do. That is not Approved or official - only leaders with that permission can do that. That is by design and how National wants it to work

@JamesGibson5 it is possible to still earn Cit in Society, if any requirement was completed prior to 2/27/26. And all requirements are completed by 12/31/2026

Beginning on February 27, 2026, Scouts will no longer be able to start requirements on the Citizenship in Society Merit Badge. Those Scouts who had already started and completed any requirements for the merit badge will be allowed the rest of 2026 to complete the full merit badge.
