Scoutbook Plus Upload Help

I am looking for help on converting a CSV file exported from Double Knot that has our scouts summer camp merit badge completions to a pipe delineated format. I would like an example of the speific data, sequence and formating so that I can reformat our exported csv correctly.

Google AI indicated the following format, but I have had no luck yet. I still get this error

Advancement import file must be a pipe-delimited text file.

This is the format that I am trying to use.

MemberID|FirstName|LastName|AdvancementType|AdvancementID|Version|DateCompleted|DateApproved

any help is appreciated. We have 30 scouts with a ton of MB, so manually uploading individual MB’s will be very time consuming.

@BrianLowell - doubleknot DOES NOT provide a file and data that can be uploaded.

Not that simple @BrianLowell - as even the names Doubleknot uses do not line up. So you cannot do it. You just need to use Quickentry for the data.

If you want doubleknot to start creating export files that align with the SB+ import format, you likely need to encourage your council (who is doubleknot’s client) to push doubleknot to coordinate with national as a third-party provider so they can get access to the compatible output format. Please note that (generally) the import format does not handle rank advancements, as has been noted in other discussions on these boards.

I was hoping to generate the pipe delineated file myself using the csv that i was able to download. I just need to know the correct fields and order. I will do the rest.

@BrianLowell - this is not possible with the doubleknot data

National (via SUAC) has previously stated that they will not release the file format except to specific third-party vendors they’re working with. I’m not sure that it’s really that much of a state secret, but that’s the position they appear to have taken.

understood.

I can generate the file myself.

do you know the correct format?

this is what i was trying to create, but I am running to errors

MemberID|FirstName|LastName|AdvancementType|AdvancementID|Version|DateCompleted|DateApproved

@BrianLowell - we do not know the format nor can anyone provide it to you.

what scout council sites are compatable? I wonder if anyone has sucessfully uploaded and can provide a copy as an example? I can disect and generate my own file.

@BrianLowell you cannot dissect it - you are wasting time thinking you are going to save some. Databases have specific data that has to be matched. National works with DoubleKnot (as I understand it) but Doubleknot has chosen not to output the file that is compatible (even in field data) with the standards that National has setup.

@BrianLowell - the 3rd party sites that Charlie was noting would be like troop/packmaster etc.

This thread has run its course.

Scouting America does not publish the file format for the uploads
Those that know the file format have signed a Non-disclosure agreement and cannot release it.

There are 2 options,

  1. Use Quick Entry to enter the data from summer camp. What I suggest is just entering the final date of camp for all dates. For complete MBs, just enter the final completion date. For partial MBs, fill in the actual completed requirements.
  2. Get Doubleknot to provide the proper upload file, an option that will most likely not be ready in time for this year’s camps.

Thank you. I agree this has run its course. Scoutbook plus has made a simple task unnecessarily complicated.

Manual quick entry it is.

Thank you all.

@BrianLowell

Just to be clear, this has nothing to do with Scoutbook Plus. Legacy Scoutbook never supported Doubleknot upload either. Doubleknot has never provided a file in the right format for Scoutbook.
