Good Evening,
We recently registered my son with another troop in a different district using multiple registration from the my.scouting.org page. The registration was successful, but Scoutbook is showing wonky in different ways for just about all parties involved. Please help!
After first registering him, he lost all access to Scoutbook and it was denying his user credentials even though we knew they worked. I figured out that there is a way to select the default troop when loading, and it was set to his new one, but they had yet to accept him. I flipped it to his original troop and he was able to log in, but not data is present. I’m assuming this was the first problem but not sure. When looking at his profile, it shows his original troop, 71, but shows no advancement history. Not even a menu for it actually. It shows his original BSA ID but no longer shows his join date. There is no way to access anything from his log in.
When I log in to my account, I can see him and I have a menu where I can select either troop showing my son as the connection. I can see his original troop 71, and his new troop 147. Under his original troop, I can see his advancement record, but his BSA ID is now different and doesn’t match the one when going in as him, which was his original. When I switch to his new troop, the ID stays the same, but a little grey button/box shows up that says “current” with a green check mark. Hovering over it shows “Registration: Multiple Date: 2026-06-01 to 2026-12-31”. Moving back and forth between each troop shows different balances for the payment log, so it looks like its partially working.
His new troop, 147, can see his advancement history no problem. His original troop shows him as registered but can’t access his advancement history and no longer shows him on the roster.
From my reading on here, it looks like the issue is that he is registered out of council for the multiple and the creation of the second BSA ID split his record. I saw in one of the posts that there is a backend way to recconnect this. Any help on this one would be appreciated as he leaves for Jambo in a couple weeks and I don’t want his registrations all messed up.
Thanks!
Dan Harrison.
You registered your son S in a different council. This means he now has a 2nd Scouting America Member ID (MID). Scoutbook Plus only supports a single MID per account.
He will need a 2nd account and you will need to determine which unit will be responsible for his advancement as having both units entering advancement will cause it to be split between the two accounts.
Let us know if Troop 71 or Troop 147 will be handlin advancement and we will be able to get his accounts setup properly.
Hi Ed. Thanks for the reply. For now, Troop 71 will be handling advancement.
Since 147 can currently see his advancement and 71 cannot, am I correct to assume that initiating the multiple registration caused the advancement to shift over to 147 when I did it, which is why S can no longer see his record as his login is with his original MID?
@DanielHarrison2 This user’s Scoutbook accounts have been fixed. You might need to wait for the overnight sync to run.
Thanks Jennifer! Do I need to make a second user id then for him to access the other MID?
In a situation like this, where a Scout is registered with troops in different councils, it is best for Troop B (Troop 147) to share all advancement information with Troop A (Troop 71). Troop A’s Scoutbook account should be used to record the Scout’s advancement, while the Scoutbook account with Troop B is used for registration purposes. This helps avoid duplicate or conflicting advancement records and ensures the Scout’s record remains complete and accurate.
If your son has a username, he can “manage member id” to bring the other number under it. Just make sure the one with the advancement is primary. We have been told the advancement is supposed to sync between them, but we’ve never actually seen it in practice to verify in what detail that occurs or if there are other issues with it.
Thank you all!
So I gave it until today to see what updated overnight and I’m afraid there are still issues.
When logging in as my scout in my.scouting.org, I can see both of his MIDs and the one for Troop 71 is marked as primary. When I log in to advancements.scouting.org, his profile shows correct and not jumbled as before, his join date is back, and I can view all of his advancements. However, his activity tracker is at zero for camping, hiking, and service hours.
When I log in as myself, I can view his youth profile and switch between Troop 71 and 147 using the drop down menu. The scoutbook balance changes when doing so, and his profile also changes, but shows the same member number for each troop. Again, there is no activity present in the activity tracker for either unit.
When viewing on the Troop roster, he is now back, but again, shows no activity. By going into the activity logs, his time is recorded and shows per each trip, but is not showing on the tracker itself.
Any help you guys can provide would be much appreciated!
I would check to see if toggling the “include activity with other units” in the log reports triggers visibility. Maybe the logs are confused about which unit they were associated with?
I am not finding this toggle in his account or in mine. What screen is this on?
@DanielHarrison2 - that would be in the activity log report. You are experiencing the inherent issues of being registered in multiple councils.
@DanielHarrison2 Just to clarify, you are talking about the Activity Logs on the Scout’s Profile page? And they all say 0 instead of a number?
If you click on one of the logs (for example: Camping), are you then able to see the entries?
Correct. That is the screen that I am referring to. All of the items have zero next to them. But when I click on them, I can see the individual entries that are there.
Kind of sounds like a sync issue on the 0’s (give it 24 hours) - or maybe a cache
