Can we please have the merit badges shown for Star and Life Rank like they are shown for Eagle Rank?
The current Star and Life rank just show a number of approved. I would like to see which ones Scoutbook is counting toward each rank.
Star rank:
Life rank example:
@TravisLundy - not sure why this is needed as it does not specify which merit badges in teh requirement
@TravisLundy
It doesn’t matter which MBs Scoutbook is “crediting” to Star and Life. All that matters is that the Scout has the correct number of Merit Badges. There were many issues when Legacy Scoutbook tried to assign specific MBs to Star and Life, for example, Scouts and leaders thinking SB had a bug because it did not match what was written in the handbook.
There is no report or form that asks the Scout to indicate which MBs were used to earn Star and Life ranks.
By not assigning specific MBs to Star and Life, the system avoids people thinking there is a bug.
Scoutbook is already calculating it, why not show it 1.) as a check of the system and 2.) to help us to record the MB in the scout’s handbook.
Like my teachers and professors always said, “Show your work.”
@TravisLundy
You can write any MBs you like in the Scout’s handbook as long as they were completed before the Star and Life rank dates.
@TravisLundy - are the adults entering things in the scout handbook ?
@TravisLundy
Also, Scoutbook Plus does not assign MBs to Star and Life, it just counts the number of Eagle Required MBs complete and “other” MBs complete and determines if enough have been earned to fulfill Requirement 3.
For Star, if 4 “Eagle Required” MBs are approved and a total of 6 MBs are approved, it marks Requirement 3 complete/approved.
For Life, if 7 “Eagle Required” MBs are approved and a total of 11 MBs are approved, it marks Requirement 3 complete/approved.
The Scouts BSA History Report and Individual Advancement Record reports both show which merit badges are assigned to each rank.
My request is to simply have the Star and Life rank show this information in the Star and Life respective screens to simplify the process during say a SM conference when we must verify everything is recorded in the book and in Scoutbook. Having to run the report requires additional steps and load times slowing down the process. It is always better to have the information in a single view.
This would also help scouts to fill this information in their books before SM conferences. Parents and scouts in my experience have not been savvy enough in general to find a report etc etc which adds more to the plate of us volunteers.
The data is there, I would simply like to see it in one place.
It’s not going not going to happen.
There is NO requirement that says a handbook MUST match SB. Requiring the Scouts to have them match is adding to the requirements which is NOT allowd.
