I’m over 50 myself. And I’ve talked to these specific older Scouters… or tried to. The problem ones are the guys that rail on and on about how much better Scouting was when they were a kid, and how worthless their achievements in Scouting are now because “gays and girls” are allowed to join, and it’s just gotten all soft.
I even had one “older Scouter” that was probably 30 that pretty much bragged about how much his Troop hazed new Scouts when he was in it – and he claimed to be an Eagle; wanted to join our Troop as an ASM to “toughen these kids up”… “teach them real wilderness survival skills like he learned them – getting dropped off in the back country for a weekend with nothing but a pocket knife”. Dude had serious issues, and I wouldn’t let him near any kids.
