My previous post was closed and I am still seeking guidance
When a scout brings a blue card or completes a MB they go to the Scoutmaster as per item 10 in GTA. Item 12 is done by our Advancement person. Scoutbook does not allow this step to be separated. How do other units do this as once it is marked Approved/Recorded the next step only goes to the Tab "To Be Purchased.
Please allow this topic to be discussed and maybe please try to answer and not knock it down. If this is not the avenue then please let me know where to go.
@MichaelWilhelm2
It is ONE step with Scoutbook. Whomever Leader Approves the Merit Badge completion will be recorded IF you print the Blue Card on both sections on the reverse side. There is actually no need to print physical blue cards once a MB is completed.
This forum is for tech questions. You can go to social media or roundtables. You questions on 10 vs 12 is just you not understanding the system,
We are not talking about printing blue cards but that the Marked Approved/Recorded is done in our unit by two people. Right now if the Scoutmaster clicks the button then our Advancement Chair does not get a chance to Review and Record. I requested and asked for this to be a separate checkbox and I get they do not want to do that, so was wondering if the process we are following is i correct.
We followed this process and many Units on my state still print for final approval. In order to go filly electronic it should be separated.
Ultimately Scoutmaster approves and then goes to Advancement as a checks and balance.

Your advancement chair does not need to review and the MB already recorded when it is leader approved. Once a MB is signed off by the MBC, it has been earned and the Guide to Advancement provides only a few reason why the MB may be rescinded. The SM signature (and leader approval) is just acknowledging the SM had a conversation with the Scout about the MB experience. It is not a retest and the SM cannot withhold the MB.
So then could Scoutbook allow a MB to not be Approved/Recorded until a MBC has marked it complete or have a pop up stating you are Approving a MB without Counselor approval.
I don’t think that will happen. A unit should not be doing the final leader approval until one of the following is true:
- The MB has been Merit Badge Counselor approved
- The unit has a signed physical Blue Card in its possesion
- The unit has a alternate proof a MBC signed off on the MB, ex. a Black Pug spreadsheet from summer camp.
