Welcome! This forum has a treasure trove of great info – Scouters helping Scouters! Just a heads up, though - all content, information, and opinions shared on this forum are those of the author, not the BSA.
The new Artificial Intelligence badge has no pamphlet (“by design”) and I am struggling to understand what requirement 6(e) means: ‘Complete the “Clear Communication Challenge” activity’.
As per the guidance, I asked the Scoutie bot, and got a circular answer:
> To get the specific details of the challenge, a Scout would need to consult their merit badge counselor or the most current requirements from Scouting America
User: Explain the clear communication activity for requirement 6e of the AI merit badge
Scoutly: For
the Artificial Intelligence Merit Badge, requirement 6e is the “Clear
Communication Challenge” activity. While the specific details of the
challenge are not outlined in the requirements, it appears to be part of
the broader section on developing AI skills (Requirement 6).
The context suggests this activity is likely related to:
Effective communication with AI systems
Writing clear, precise instructions
Understanding how to interact with AI technologies
This requirement follows directly after:
Discussing the learning process for AI and its limitations (6a)
Identifying 5 methods of communicating with AI (6b)
Understanding prompt engineering (6c)
Demonstrating writing clear instructions for school tasks (6d)
To get the exact details of the “Clear Communication Challenge”, I recommend:
Consulting with your AI Merit Badge counselor
Checking the most current requirements on scouting.org
Discussing the specific activity during your merit badge counseling session
The overall goal seems to be helping Scouts develop skills in communicating effectively and precisely with AI technologies.

ROFL - perhaps this is to show how AI can communicate poorly.
I have heard that if you clear cache Scoutly is SUPPOSED to answer correctly.
Basically it seems to be asking AI a Simple Vague Question vs asking AI a Complete Question.
Simple: “I fed my dog chocolate” - DEAR GOD YOUR DOG IS GONNA DIE - go to the VET
Complete: “I dropped one chocolate chip on floor and my Mastiff ate it” - A Mastiff is so large the system will not notice this small amount of chocolate, just be more aware in the future.
