E-Mail Format Issues

I noticed this topic was brought up on another post but it was auto closed, implying this issue was fixed, which it’s not.

When I created the e-mail within Scoutbook, I had all these formats and special characters setup and once sent, it messed up all the formatting and change the special characters into ???. This is an issue that needs to be fixed and DO NOT auto close this and mark it as fixed when it’s not. This bug should remain open and cataloged in your DevOps.

Along those same lines, do you have a dashboard where we can see the open/closed/pending bugs your DevOps team is working on?

@DanielRubin when you say “Within Scoutbook” - did you use the SB User Interface to type the text? Or did you copy/Paste the text from another source like Microsoft Word?

Also when was the Email produced?

Actually, national set a time out on all threads after a certain inactivity period. It has no relationship to whether the issue is resolved. Keeping the thread alive doesn’t do anything but occupy the SUAC volunteers’ time. If you want to know whether a bug/feature request has been resolved, subscribe to the change logs.

The SUAC volunteers are just scouters like the rest of us, and don’t have any control over the developers’ timelines or priorities. National does not maintain a public facing bug/feature development list nor public timelines for any particular bugs (I’ve asked for both before). If you think this should change, the only avenue to address it is by convincing your council professional staff to push back on the policy with national. However, be aware that many of us have done so in the past with no success as yet. So don’t be surprised if there’s no movement on the issue.

Copy and paste and then made tweaks. This isnt 1995, should be able to copy text into a website and have the formats copy over without issues.

I did it 2 days ago.

We pay national not to maintain their own website that they want us to use to manage our Packs and Troops? I remember when Scoutbook was volunteer made but I’m pretty sure now it’s owned by national.

As someone who has volunteered over 10 years of my life is scouting at this point, I get it. But it doesn’t change the fact that I make sure that things work before I Implement something new and deactivate the old, that did work without issue. You should never Implement something new without it being the same or better than the existing system, Programing 101.

The folks on these boards are all volunteers. There’s no national staff here. You’re correct that national bought it, and they direct all of the development efforts. None of the developers are on here either. I’m not clear what you expect the folks here to be able to do.

Unfortunately none since nobody from National is on here. I was given this page link from our Council. I would close this thread but I don’t see that option at this point.

Please, let this auto close everyone.

There is an open issue in the backlog to fix the ? that appears in e-mail when copy/paste is used with non-alpha characters.

Watch Scoutbook - Scoutbook Plus Change Log - Scouting Forums for an announcement of a fix.

This is the right place to report your bugs. SUAC members (volunteers) confirm the bugs and submit them to the developers. We do not control their priorities or design decisions.
