Attended Week Camp at Camp Shenandoah this week. While there I was talking with other parents/leaders about issues with getting PCPs to fill out the Health Form for Camp.
Some PCPs will just flat out not do it. They already performed the service and used that organizations approved form and feel it is unnecessary to fill out another one that asks the same questions.
Individuals like me that have those issues just go to an urgent care and do it that way… well this time around I hit a roadblock. Seems my insurance doesn’t allow that anymore. So I had to pay out of pocket to get it done as self pay. I think this may be more common than we think.
Question is, if most physicals that are performed by PCP cover the same basic checkup that the Health Physicals covers, why cant that be attached to parts A, B1 and B2? The individual that is in charge of the Health Lodge at camp should be able to discern from the physical what info is needed, I would hope.
I maintain the Physicals at the unit, and with my basic knowledge as a lab tech, I can look at a physical and know what shots were given, physical limitations and medication they are on.
While some families have resources to make anything happen, other are just squeeking by. Having another cost placed on them after Recharter, unit dues and Camp dues, can we rethink the Health form?
