Welcome! This forum has a treasure trove of great info – Scouters helping Scouters! Just a heads up, though - all content, information, and opinions shared on this forum are those of the author, not the BSA.
On Scoutbook+, one can click on the “Age” column and sort by DoB and display the results in either direction. However, it is not a true sort. It sorts by year, then by month, then by day - not by actual DoB. The year sort is correct. The month sort is not, but the day sort is correct. For example, if I have a few Scouts born the same year (2011), two born in April (23rd and 10th), one in July. The youngest to oldest order is listed as:
4/23/11, 4/10/11, and 7/06/11
The Scout born in July should be the first in the list. When changing the order to oldest to youngest, the order is reversed.
If I run an actual report from the Report Builder, the DoB sorting is correct.
I’m curious what this granularity is needed for. We sort by age really only for tenting requirements, as it’s “no more than 2 years apart in age”, not “24 months”
The age sort is not working as you described. What it is doing, if you sort by ascending years, everyone with the same age is sorted by last name ascending. If you sort by descending years, everyone with the same age is sorted by last name descending.
I agree this is confusing. The SUAC will work with the developers to improve the sort order. We do not know when this may be completed.
