How can Commissioners help units with the introduction of the Citizenship in Society Merit Badge?

The new merit badge encourages Scouts to explore important topics around diversity, equity, inclusion and ethical leadership and learn why these qualities are important in society and in Scouting. Beginning July 1, 2022, the Citizenship in Society merit badge will be required for any youth seeking to achieve the Eagle Scout rank. For this new required merit badge, any scout who has their Eagle Scout Board of Review Scheduled after 7-1-2022 will need this new merit badge. The number of merit badges does not increase. The number of required merit badges increases to 14. Although the number of elective merit badges for Eagle Scout decreases to 7, scouts may earn always earn additional merit badges to pursue their interests.
