I saw there were posts about this back in 2019/2020 but those solutions don’t seem to be relevant anymore.
I accidentally connected a MBC to a Scout for the Fishing merit badge when it should have been the Fly Fishing MB. I went into Scoutbook legacy, clicked on the Scout, then clicked on that Scout’s connections. I removed the connection btw the MBC for the Fishing and changed it to the Fly Fishing MB.
But I cannot get rid of the Fishing MB now. It shows as started, when it’s never been started.
There’s currently no way to remove a MB from the “started” list. It’s not a big deal in terms of functionality, so I suspect it’s unlikely to get fixed any time soon.
@NicoleAllen3
The only reason MBs get started in Scoutbook Plus is to keep the list of MBs for a Scout shorter instead of having to scroll through 140 MBs. A started MB will not hurt anything.
@NicoleAllen3- my son had a number of mb started some worked on others not but he made eagle with palms without issue
Yes. Agreed. Won’t hurt anything. I just like the information I’m working with to be accurate, so I wish I could clean it up. Oh well.
@edavignon @Stephen_Hornak
Yep. Not suggesting it will impact advancement. Just suggesting this is a functionality within the software that a Key 3 should have.
It feels like if I were using Excel to build a regression model for analysis but then I have a random input in random cell in the middle of my worksheet.
Would it impact the results of my statistical analysis? nope
Would it be annoying? yep

@NicoleAllen3 - yeah I get that but that is why there is a filter on scout MB page for approved, started and all mb.
Now I will say that i recently worked with and attended the CoH of a female Eagle Scout who started and earned every merit badge. I was the counselor on her last two, surveying and drafting. Started MB’s would be a great conversation between the scout and scoutmaster. I have not heard anyone comment much about the issue save for a few.
for more interesting things to look at:
It bothers me less for my younger scouts - who might conceivably decide to work on this Fishing MB sometime in the next 6 years.
But for my Scouts who are about to Eagle, I’d prefer it if I could clean up their record.
Anyway, doesn’t matter…
I want it cleaned up too. I accidentally started a merit badge for a scout trying to make a step by step guide to the Scoutmaster. Now this scout has a merit badge showing that he might never intend to work on.
It is not possible to delete started Merit Badges since the migration to Scoutbook Plus. They do no harm and no one looks to see what a Scout might have started and not finished.
@MelissaGreen- never say never. I just worked with a scout that decided to earn every merit badge. I worked with her on her last two surveying and drafting.
You might be able to remove the merit badge in Scoutbook (legacy) by clicking on:
[Scout]'s Merit Badges
[name of merit badge]
For Requirements Entry by Merit Badge Counselors, click here
click on the checkbox next to “Percent Completed”.
Click on “Remove Merit Badge”
OMG THAT WORKED!!!
Do you know how many times I’ve tried to remove this!!!
THANK YOU
@MelissaGreen @Stephen_Hornak @edavignon
Thank you, Jennifer. That worked!!
