Welcome! This forum has a treasure trove of great info – Scouters helping Scouters! Just a heads up, though - all content, information, and opinions shared on this forum are those of the author, not the BSA.
Believe it or not, unit leaders occasionally make a mistake and “start” a merit badge that the Scout never intends to work on, This commonly happens when signing Scouts up for merit badges at Summer Camp or for merit badge clinics. I know that there is still a way to remove merit badges through the Legacy Scoutbook but us advancement folks still need a way to remove merit badges when the transition to Scoutbook+ is complete. I can say from experience that parents do not understand that having a merit badge that has never been started or put by mistake on the Scout’s record that they can see, doesn’t mean anything and does affect their Scout at all.
@CharlesOlson - there is also the ability for the scout/parent to start the merit badge via scoutbook plus or the scouting app. To me it is a non-issue
Currently, you can still go to Legacy Scoutbook, pick the Scout, pick “Scout’s Merit Badges” (NOT Scout’s Advancement), click the “0%” and “Remove Merit Badge”. If the 0% does not show, you might have to select a different Version (bar at the top of the MB screen, under Invite Councelor).
