Hi guys,
I am key 3 and the Advancement chair.
I see some entries related to this from 2019 but the system I believe doesn’t work the same way anyway so the replies to that issue didn’t help me.
I have a scout who completed a merit badge in June of 2025. He did complete the merit badge, but another leader went in and marked approved/recorded. But we have our Court of Honor coming up and we haven’t one since spring, so this scout has not actually been awarded this MB. I need to add his MB to my shopping cart and my “To Award” section, but no matter what I do I cannot seem to get it to go where I need it to go. I’ve even just tried to see if I could delete the MB and I can then just reenter it but I can’t do that either.
@NicoleAllen3 - are you in this section
@NicoleAllen3- a couple of items - 1 - do not post images with scout names visible in a public forum. 2 - unit key 3 are the cor. Scoutmaster and committee chair. 3- the item is awarded so if that is incorrect then click on the awarded item to see if there is a check that would need to be removed
Good point, sorry about that. I deleted those posts.I thought screenshots would be helpful but I didn’t think about the scout names being public.
When I said Key 3, I meant to say Key 3 Delegate - and the only reason I mention that is to say that there shouldn’t be any edits I’m not allowed to do (besides stuff Council has to do).
I have unchecked, and unchecked and unchecked the “Awarded” and it doesn’t seem to change anything.
I went into the scouts profile and cleared out this section for the Auto Maint MB
So now it’s in the “Pending MB” section of his profile
However, when I go into the section where i record/approve/to be awarded/awarded section - (what are we calling that section??) - it does not show up in the “To Record, To Approve, To Purchase, or To Award” section.
Under Awarded section, it shows this:
Under History section it shows this:
And I cannot seem to get it to change……
@NicoleAllen3- what shows up in the scout record for completed merit badges? I wonder if there are two different versions
It’s not showing up in Scoutbook Legacy OR Scoutbook Plus=>Youth’s Profile=>Merit Badges=> Approved
@NicoleAllen3 - we could try a screen share if you wish email me at sjhjr@comcast.net
@NicoleAllen3
Is the Scout in the lapse period (60 days after registration expires)? There is a known issue where lapsed Scouts do not appear on To Purchase or To Award. The only workaround is manually complete an advancement report or have the Scout renew.
If you post the Scout’s Scouting America Member ID (no names) we can check the registration status.
Thanks for being willing to do this. I just sent you an email, saying I don’t know how to screen share. So maybe you can tell me what to do next?
@NicoleAllen3 - i have sent you the link to use
I followed the link, opened the exe file but then it immediately ended the session. odd
@NicoleAllen3 - there should have been a prompt to run the exe and accept the remote connect. I just sent the code for quick assist
Well now I’ve really messed it up, @Stephen_Hornak . Today I spent HOURS adding all our campouts etc. Then I turned my attention to Advancement items. I was making sure I had everything correct in Scoutbook, from our history in Troopmaster, since our last COH. So for a lot of my scouts, I approved items, then put them in my “To Purchase” shopping cart, then put them in my “To Award” cart. Then I marked them in my “Awarded” since I wanted to clear out things as I went, thinking they’d be in the shopping cart to purchase. But as soon as I marked “Awarded”, the balance of 21 items in my shopping cart disappeared. It makes sense - after the fact - that would happen. But being my first time, ,I didn’t realize I shouldn’t click Awarded yet. But I did. And I’ve tried everything (like we did earlier) to remove those awarded items, but system won’t let me. I’m not really worried about actuallly getting my items - I know who earned what when - but I wanted to make it correct in Scoutbook. Arrgh.
So what does everyone else do….mark it as approved, mark it as “To Purchase”, mark it as “To Award” and then go back into Scoutbook and mark it “Awarded” after the court of honor/you give to Scout?
Uggh!
@NicoleAllen3
The recommendation is awards are marked Awarded after the Scout has been presented with the award. This way if a Scout does not show up at a COH and needs to be give the award later, you have a record.

Yep. That makes complete sense!
@NicoleAllen3 - I would mark them awarded after a CoH or with the pack after a pack meeting. The awarded check box is most likely happened with the Auto Repair MB. Its no hamr no foul if they were awarded at the last CoH but going forward work in the way the tabs flow in the advancement section.
Will do.
The items haven’t been awarded yet at all. Our COH is in November so I was just trying to get everything correct in Scoutbook now while we’re transitioning so I’d be ready then and it wouldn’t be as much work.
I suspect the only issue I’ll run into is my local Scout Shop raising their eyebrow when I try to buy the physical badges and rank that are already showing as awarded in Scoutbook.
Oh well.
@NicoleAllen3 - the scout shop would have no idea. I would hand write the advancement report and be on your way. I fact I go to a neighboring council shop because it’s close to my house
They require a report from Internet Advancement in hand, or emailed ahead of time.
It’s fine. They know me pretty well. I’m sure they’ll understand.
