I noticed when searching for Merit Badge Counselors in my area, the zip codes appear correct, but the city listed is not accurate. It appears to be defaulting to our Council Headquarters location. Will this be updated at somepoint?
Also, in Scoutbook Legacy, we could search a MBC and lookup their contact info. Our SM would specifically ask Scouts and their parent(s) to then contact the Counselor directly to agree to work with that scout. Now it appears I just pick one and send them a blind message requesting they connect to a new scout. This seems to go against what we traditionally asked Scouts to do.
@ErinHeadley - on the first part that is known and will be addressed. On the second part I am not following…The process has not changed that I am aware of. You can still provide the contact info and the scout take it from there. Beyond that tradition is peer pressure from dead people.
@ErinHeadley
The incorrect city is a known issue. Watch Scoutbook - Scoutbook Plus Change Log - Scouting Forums for an announcement of a fix.
To get contact info for an MBC, click on the
to get contact information to provide the Scout. There is a story in the backlog to display the contact information in the search results without having to click.
Got it.
It pops up their phone number and email. Assuming there is no way to message them through SB - unless that is enabled after the connection is made?
These would be helpful tips to add to the updated MB Counselor Guide.
No, there is not an option to send a message to the MBC through Scoutbook. Most Scouts can’t send messages via Scoutbook. The recommendation is just to provide the Scout with the contact information and let the Scout decide the best way to make contact.
I am a UC and the Adv Chair just sent me screenshots of old and new output when he looks for MB Counselors.
The old output shows all contact info: Name, city, zip, phone numbers, email addresses.
The new output shows name, city and zip. And that is it! To see contact info he needs to click on an icon in front of each name. And then write down that information. One by one by one by one by one by one. You get the idea.
The process has changed. And not for the better.
The general method of giving a scout multiple MB contacts has been made difficult. The Adv Chair has one scout who is interested in three different MBs. So we just want to Adv Chair to go through this process 12 times for just that one kid. This Troop has about 40 scouts. The math isn’t too hard.
And although your reply was to another person I’m wondering what the “Beyond that tradition is peer pressure from dead people.” is about.
@DavidSchilpp
There is a story in development to show the e-mail address and phone number on the search result screen. Watch Scoutbook - Scoutbook Plus Change Log - Scouting Forums for an announcement of a fix.
Thanks Ed
My retired software developer Adv Chair was happy to hear this.
