Thank you for the prompt reply!
I never got a notification that my MBC registration ran out and this council tells me I have to fill out a new adult application on line, no paper copy. I fill out an application and it wants me to pay before it submits, I have other valid registrations with this council but my registration fees were paid to another council (I am CM for my grandson’s pack in another area). First council tells me there is nothing they can do about it unless I pay. Second council tells me it shouldn’t be a problem, in addition they tell me that they only accept paper applications for MBC. Asked the first council if they contacted National - nope. Any suggestions ? Should I try going directly to the council Exec?
The last I heard MBC applications had to be done on paper, there was no national electronic MBC application.
You only have to pay for one registered position per year. If your council cannot figure out how to make this happen they have an internal workgroup (like forums) where they can ask questions or they can open a ticket with National Member Care.
The working theory I had for this as of last night for my own district is that it is occurring to people that have both unit and district/council positions where their primary unit renewed them (instead of the self-renewal option.
The person renewing for the unit does not see the other positions you have so you end up only getting your unit position renewed and as of the end of the grace period those in this scenario had their district/council positions dropped.
@WilliamCunnane that is the same we are wondering - I do not think National expected many units to renew registrations for the individuals and did not fore see the impacts on multiple registrations
That is my theory too. The renewal process change was supposed to have each member renewing themselves, not relying on their unit to do so.
Actually, Ed, there is a link for district and council applications that can be completed electronically (we are processing MBC 100% electronically). He should ensure that he is logged into his my.scouting account, with both memberships listed and the paid position set as primary. If it still doesn’t work, then the council will need to process the application on paper. By the way, which council is it? It’s possible that it’s mine, GGAC, and I would be able to help him.

I just logged in to my.scouting.org, went to My Applications → Multiple/Transfer → Multiple and there are only options for Pack, Troop, Crew and Ship. I do not see any link to apply for a District or Council position.
Looking at your registrations, only your Troop position is listed as current. Your other positions are marked as expiring 12/31/25 but have IsCurrent=No. Unless you just renewed these today, you will need to speak with your Council staff to get them fixed.
FYI, I was a unit-renewal and my MBC role renewed at the same time without any additional action on my part. I dunno if that’s because our registrar is a superstar (which is true!) or if the system worked differently for some reason.
Some district roles allow one to see the district QR code and district beascout link. If I follow the link it asks if I want to multiple in the district. I don’t know of anyone in our district using this, though.
you need to be given the link. The council and district link is not searchable. If you have an appropriate district position, you can see it in the invitation manager
Ed, Yes, that was fixed today (although I briefly celebrated that I technically wasn’t District Chair anymore).
As I mentioned we at the district were troubleshooting this yesterday.
So, I think I ended up in the same situation as many - I believe my MBC registration lapsed on 12/31 (please let me know if this is the case). However, my MBC registration and unit registration did not end on the same day, so when I renewed my unit registration there wasn’t an option to renew MBC at that time (August as opposed to December). No reminder messages were sent to me until I got the one saying I am dropped. To be fair, the system also did not send me reminders about my unit membership.
Also, when I check our council page, it says under MBC: MERIT BADGE COUNSELORS - If you have multiple positions, your renewal will be associated with your Primary Paid Position. If no additional positions, your process will be the same as below except your renewal will be be approved by the District Key 3.
Yes, your MBC position expired 12/31/25. You will need to contact your Council for assistance.
This happened to nealy every adult that has different end dates for their roles. I’m a Scoutmaster and MB counselor for one Troop and an ASM for another.
It really makes no sense why the roles didn’t all update during recharging. Unfortunately council doesn’t put out any guides or solutions. The lack of support is disappointing ans hurts Scouting.
Your MBC position expired 12/31/24, the same as the rest of your positions.
Did you renew your positions or were they renewed by your unit?
There may need to be some additional clarification describing the Merit Badge Counselor position. Counselors are appointed on the basis of an adult leader application designating the position as Merit Badge Counselor, and a Merit Badge Counselor Information form. Approval is a two step process. BSA and Council do their thing with the adult application. The Council Advancement Committee then determines qualification as a counselor for the merit badges requested on the basis of information provided, then appoves suitable candidates. Successful registration as a counselor requires these two approvals.
Renewal requires confirmation that one wishes to contine as a counselor, usually in the form of a positive response to an inquiry from the Council Advancement Committee. Again, the Committee has final approval.
I am registered as both a Scoutmaster and Merit Badge Counselor. At charter renewal I saw no opportunity in the system to renew as a counselor. Since both registrations are curent through 12/31/2025 I assume the Advancement Committee did their jobs.
Some of the difficulties described here likely result from failures in the renewal process as described above.
Patriots’ Path Council sends you a link which connects to your scouting account and it opens an adult application form.
Nowhere on that form does it ask if you have multi registrations, and you can’t finalize the form without paying with a credit card.
I was told that they will not accept a paper form.
My District Memberships show me registered through Dec 2025 but also say ‘pending Credit Card’ (See 1st attachment), so I’m not sure what that means.
The second attachment is my incomplete MBC application awaiting ‘complete Payment’.
My ‘paid’ registration is with the new “Great Falls Council” and they don’t understand why there is a problem.
A Scout is Thrifty so I don’t plan on paying twice.

@peteatpack48 Unfortunately, you’ll need to work that out with your council professionals.
