Welcome! This forum has a treasure trove of great info – Scouters helping Scouters! Just a heads up, though - all content, information, and opinions shared on this forum are those of the author, not the BSA.
I am running the “Needs Approval” report in preparation for our upcoming Court of Honor. I see a scout Member ID 14494009 That is showing American Heritage MB as complete on 9/30/2025. There are no requirements marked complete(all Not Started), only a comment added by the scout on requirement #1. How do I correct this?
What needs correcting? That is, is the overall merit badge marked complete and/or Counselor Approved? If so, by whom? Has the scout submitted a blue card? I guess the question is, how was it identified as an error, since individual requirements are not required by the system to be marked Complete, since not all counselors use Scoutbook to track/enter merit badge completions.
There’s not enough data here to determine whether there’s an error to be corrected, and if so what might beed doing?
There is no blue card, no counselor assigned and it would assume the scout marked it as complete. How do I remove the completion? Why does the system allow for a badge to be marked complete with requirements that are not started? I don’t see the link to counselors not using Scoutbook. Regardless of what the counselors are using, Scoutbook should reflect those records, i.e. physical Blue Card.
If a counselor doesn’t use Scoutbook, the only indication that a scout has completed an individual requirement or the entire badge is a counselor-signed blue card. Since some scouts may only get a completed blue card from the counselor (e.g. after summer camp) without individual requirements marked completed, the system permits the overall badge to be marked complete without having to enter dates & approvals for each requirement/subrequirement. This greatly reduces workload on whomever is entering the badge, especially in situations where there might be quite a number to be entered (again, such as after summer camp).
Similarly, no counselor needs to be assigned to permit marking something complete, as you might not have all of the necessary information to identify the counselor via the SB connections system just from a blue card (assuming that the camp even sends actual blue cards as opposed to a list of completed badges/requirements).
To remove an erroneous completion (assuming you have the appropriate permissions), you should be able to go into the badge for the scout and remove completion date and checkmark. You may need to click the arrow next to a requirement to display the date box.
