Mobile Scoutbook app chat

Are there plans to have a chat or communication feature within the unit and subunits in the mobile red Scoutbook app?

In legacy Scoutbook there was an option for leaders to send emails or text to the unit. This feature hasn’t been rolled into Scoutbook+ that I know of. Having this unit communication feature in the mobile Scoutbook app would eliminate the need for 3rd party (BAND, Remind, GroupMe, Facebook, emails, etc.) communication apps and drive an “All-In-One” parent app.

I can’t speak to the development plans for the app, but messaging is still present in legacy Scoutbook for all units. The overall plan, based on SUAC posts in the forums here, is to migrate all major functionality (which would include messaging) from legacy Scoutbook to SB+ eventually. When eventually will be, and exactly which features will make the cut and how they will be implemented, hasn’t been published, and likely won’t be until the features are released, based on past Scouting America practice.

Messaging is definitely being added to Scoutbook Plus. I cannot say when it will be released. Watch the Change Log for an announcement.

Chat was SMS based with mobile Carriers - MOST carriers are ending that option currently - how that will effect the ability to send direct to a phones chat is being determined.

Yes, I noticed that SMS was dropped with the Remind app we used so I am searching for another option for unit communications for the next scouting year.

Scoutbook IT could use the in-app notifications like other 3rd party apps?

I just want to get to an “All-In-One” parent app. Us leaders will still have to use the other websites of Scoutbook but if I could express one area that would GREATLY improve the parent/user experience its putting communications in the mobile red Scouting app.

@ThomasCline

I would not expect the Scouting Mobile App to be the answer to what you are looking for. Have you tried GroupMe?

@ThomasCline - beyond that the scouting app is limited to scouts and their parents and it is not a unit tool.

Yes, I use GroupMe for council level popcorn communication. Currently testing GroupMe and BAND for unit level communication instead of Remind app.

During this test I had the idea that IF the mobile red Scouting app had family and scout communications I wouldn’t need a 3rd party app. We could use all the other features of the mobile red Scouting app (Advancements, Calendar, Pament Logs, Leader contacts, YPT completion) with communications “All-In-One” parent app.

Idk just a thought.
