This award was discontinued on 12/31/2024, but in an email from national, we were told that scouts who were already working toward it had until 12/31/2025 to complete it and that it will still be available at national supply until that point. However, when awards initially changed to scoutbook plus, the leaders attempting to enter completions of some of the requirements got an error message, and then it changed to no requirements showing. at all. I know of at least two scouts near me who are still working diligently to finish this award before the deadline, so there needs the requirements need to be available to be entered as complete.
Here is the text of the email I received on this matter on March 27,2025
“Christy, On December 31, 2024, the National Medal of Outdoor Achievement, which was part of the National Outdoor Awards Program, was discontinued. However, the segments and devices for Camping, Aquatics, Conservation, Hiking, Riding, and Adventure—will continue. We strongly encourage all Scouts to pursue these awards.
We continuously review and evaluate all awards and programs to ensure they remain relevant and engaging for our members. Participation and relevance are key factors in this assessment.
We understand that some Scouts may have been actively working toward the National Medal of Outdoor Achievement prior to its discontinuation. If a Scout has already begun the process for this award prior to December 31, 2024, they will have until December 31, 2025, to complete it. Scouting America Outfitters (formerly known as National Supply) will keep the medal available for order until December 31, 2025, although it will be listed as discontinued. The SKU for the medal is 662983.
Sincerely,
Myla J. Epley | Sr. Administrative Assistant”
