National Outdoor Achievement Award

Under the National Outdoor Achievement Award - Camping, a scout can earn a GOLD pin for every 25 additional camping nights once they have earned the initial award.

However, unlike some of the other awards like hiking, I don’t see a way to add the hours for the GOLD pin other than to not it in the comments in the initial award.

Is this a problem with the migration to the new ‘scoutbook plus’?

The NOA devices are in Scoutbook Plus as different awards. Click the Start New or View All link under Awards on the Scout’s page.

The ‘gold’ and ‘silver’ device entries do not show for CAMPING.

Ok, I’ll report it.

Seconding this concern! I was able to enter the pins for 1/2 of our Scouts who achieved this award but now that the migration to internet advancement has gone through, I am unable to finish updating for gold device for the others.

National Outdoor Awards rundown of what I can see in Scoutbook +

National Outdoor Award – Center Emblem – why is this here? It can’t be awarded. When I try to apply to a Scout there is an Error: Could not determine previous Device Award. Also there are no requirements for this award.

All of the National Outdoor Award Segments (Camping, Aquatics, Conservation, Riding, Hiking, Adventure) are present in Scoutbook + but there are incorrectly named. Here is the link to the award description and requirements. Scoutbook + has them named incorrectly as National Outdoor Achievement ([insert segment name]) https://www.scouting.org/programs/scouts-bsa/advancement-and-awards/noa/

This is confusing because there is or was a National Outdoor Achievement Medal but was retired in 2024.

National Outdoor Gold Device (Adventure) – Present but labeled incorrectly as National Outdoor Achievement Award (Adventure) - Gold Device

National Outdoor Silver Device (Adventure) – Present but labeled incorrectly as National Outdoor Achievement Award (Adventure) – Silver Device

Additionally – The Adventure Devices available are 1 – 8 so the question is should all segments have 1-8 devices available for awarding? In Scoutbook, only the next award was available for awarding. So once the first Gold Device was awarded, then the 2nd Gold Device was magically available to award. I prefer having them all available. When a Scout finally gets the camping merit badge I am often awarding several devices at a time.

Finally - I have Scouts who had already earned several devices for multiple segments. These do not appear to have migrated to Scoutbook+ I am happy to provide examples if needed.

The developers are aware of the missing device awards. Watch Scoutbook - Scoutbook Plus Change Log - Scouting Forums for an announcement of a fix.

For the awards that have already been earned and recorded in Legacy Scoutbook but are missing in Scoutbook Plus, please provide the Scout’s Scouting America Member ID (no names) and the missing awards. We will investigate.

I just noticed that the “kayaking bsa award” also did not transfer over to advancements.scouting from Scoutbook “awards” entries. I entered this award for 7 scouts (between 2 units) about 2 weeks ago and it is not showing up in advancements.scouting at all.

This is a known issue. The developers are working on a solution.

When we import our NOA awards (center emblem, segments, and devices) from 3rd party text file into Scoutbook/Plus, they no longer get recorded on the Scouts’ records as having been earned/completed. This functionality worked as recently as May 2025.

There are known issues with NOAA.

Just a note that it’s worth looking up the AaronOnScouting article that covers the NOAA if you haven’t already. In there the guy who wrote the NOAA requirements says that all scouting activities count towards the awards. He points out that activities in Cubs are included.
I had to go back and figure out what my son had done in Cubs as the Pack didn’t have records. It made a bit of a difference. My son earned the NOAA medal and all the rockers with pins. I made a spreadsheet to keep track of all the miles, nights, and hours. This was pre-Scoutbookplus so I have no idea if the Cub data can be included once at the Scout level. It should.
