SB+ Messages - 2 adult vs. 2 leader youth requirement

Since Scoutbook Plus messaging was implemented, we’ve noticed changes to the adult copy/youth protection communication requirements compared to previous Scoutbook messaging. As an Advancement Chair, I regularly send messages directly to Scouts (with parents copied) regarding their availability for Board of Review meetings. These communications are intended specifically for the Scouts to answer, while still maintaining appropriate youth protection by including both myself and the parents.

Under the new system, the requirement to also copy an additional leader beyond myself and the parents creates unnecessary communication challenges. It forces unrelated leaders to be included in routine scheduling conversations where they do not need to be involved, increasing message volume and making it more likely that important communications will be overlooked or ignored.

Is there a way to restore the prior communication setup or adjust settings so messages can function more like the previous system while still remaining compliant with youth protection requirements? The previous structure seemed to appropriately balance communication efficiency with required safeguards.

This challenge is the main reason I still use Scoutbook messaging instead of SB+ Messaging.

Thanks - Megan

@MeganPirchner this is the implementation that National wants - you can talk to council to see if they will advocate to have it decreased.

@MeganPirchner

Since you are scheduling a BOR, copy the Committee Chair as the Chair should be aware of upcoming BORs anyway.

Yup. For now- that’s me too so doesn’t do any good. Thanks for the feedback and route to help.

As the Scoutmaster, I’d actually prefer that all communications include me, regardless of what is being sent, simply so I can be sure I know what’s going on. Since Scoutbook Messaging doesn’t have any sort of log or archiving of messaging, I’d prefer to have a copy of the email (that I’d ignore) than to not have a copy of messaging where someone does something that I’d need to be aware of.
