Hello
I couldn’t find the correct category on this. Posting the question here. For Religious emblem, for Catholic community, we need to provide ‘the proof and most recent criminal background check date’ for the counselors. Is there a way to get this information in scout book? or do we need to contact the troop? Appreciate the help.
Thanks
Nisha
@NishaAlex all traing is stored in my.scouting.org - not Scoutbook - and if it is outside of scouting training (like this might be) it might not be there either. I would start with talking to unit or council
I would actually start with whoever your local Catholic Committee on Scouting contact is. CCS usually holds a pretty tight rein on who is permitted to be a counselor for the religious emblems.
If what you’re saying is that someone (e.g. you) is applying to become a counselor, and CCS wants that applicant’s CBC data, then council might be the only place to get that data. In addition, I think that (depending on your jurisdiction), each entity that wants access to the CBC data needs to independently obtain a CBC.
Scouting America does not make the CBC date available to volunteers. You can’t even find the date of YOUR CBC without asking the Council registrar.
@NishaAlex I agree with @CharleyHamilton that you should check with your local Catholic Committee on Scouting. They are usually part of the Dioceses/Archdioceses Youth Ministry and typically are the approver of Religious Emblem Counselors. They would have a list of the local requirements needed to be a Counselors. Such as needing VIRTUS (or similar youth protection for that Catholic Dioceses/Archdioceses), required (in addition to Scouting America CBC) background check through the state Child Protective Services, required Counselor training, etc.
