Scoutbook message reply address

The Legacy Scout messaging system sends emails that allow replying to the sender. That’s very handy for parents who want to ask questions of the leader who sent the email. But the new Scoutbook Plus messaging system sends emails from a “NoReply” address. I would like to see the new system allow replies to the sender, at least as an option if not for all messages.

@PeterCollinge

While the email comes from a common address, the reply to address is that of the sender. Because it is not using your email client to send mail, it can’t use your address as the from address because many spam filters will mark it as spam.

That makes sense, but the system could list my address as the “Reply to” address. Maybe I’m wrong, but I thought that was what Scoutbook Legacy used to do (though not recently).

@PeterCollinge

If you are the sender, your e-mail address is the reply to address. I don’t understand what you mean by

@PeterCollinge - to test this have someone in the unit send you a test message then reply back. If they get your reply then this proves what Ed has stated.

Ed, many email systems allow messages to have a “Reply To” address that is different from the Sender’s address. That’s what I’m suggesting.

@PeterCollinge

This is what Scoutbook Plus does. Send yourself an email and look at the header. Reply To: will be your address. Some email clients display reply to while others do not. This is not under the control of Scoutbook.

Ed, I did send myself an email (actually, to my pack parents as BCCs with myself as To) via Scoutbook Plus Messaging, and could not reply. And when I looked at full headers for the message, I did not see any “Reply To.” That’s why I posted this suggestion. But perhaps the problem is only with messages from me to me. I’ll ask another leader to send me a Scoutbook Plus message and see if I can reply. Thanks.

@PeterCollinge

I sent myself a message today, clicked reply and my address was in the to. I also looked in the header (searched for reply) and it was in the header.

@PeterCollinge - what email processing application are you using?

@PeterCollinge

This is what I see in the header.

Ed, I’ve done more testing, along with our Cubmaster. It does look like recipients can reply to Scoutbook Plus email messages. The only exception is the one I found before posting this request: an email where I was the sender and recipient. Thunderbird wouldn’t let me reply to that; of course I don’t need to. But that’s what led me to thinking that the Reply To feature wasn’t working in the Scoutbook Plus messages. Now that I realize that folks can reply, I withdraw this feature request. Thanks for your time and attention to this.
