Scouting System Roadmap

I know there have been several previous posts (all closed and old) on the forums about asking for a list of known issues, bugs, and future plans for SB+ and my.scouting.org. Not having a list of bugs / issues publicly available, even to background checked volunteers, makes complete sense from a security perspective alone. Not to mention it being a management nightmare, as it would require 2 lists, one for public and one for development.

However, publishing a roadmap of future updates would not have the same issues with security. The other noted concern on the forums about publishing a roadmap is that SA IT doesn’t want to make promises about future features. Any company that publishes a roadmap does so after a Safe Harbor Statement, example below, which exempts them from anything on the roadmap being treated like an official promise of a future feature. Most companies that post roadmaps find that it increases PR by increasing users reassurance that they are listening. Unfortunately, this would require management, and I know that most people are volunteers, but this isn’t something that would necessarily require frequent updates. However, it would allow users to know what is being actively investigated, verses things that are not in the immediate future.

I’m happy to help however I can if this is something SA would be interested in investigating.

Safe Harbor Statement example:

Roadmaps are plans, not promises or guarantees. We’re as excited as you to see new functionality make it into the products, but the development, releases, and timing of any features or functionality remains at our sole discretion. These roadmap updates should not be considered a promise of future features.

As a professional in the software industry I’m also happy to help if there is interest.
