"The Leaders will never have access to the Scout’s email address or cell phone numbers."

Continuing the discussion from "Scoutbook Tutorial for Parents (SB)" needs edited:

At Scoutbook Tutorial for Parents (SB) - Scoutbook Knowledge Base, it says,

The Leaders will never have access to the Scout’s email address or cell phone numbers.

But that isn’t true, is it? I seem to be able to see the emails and phone numbers of Scouts who have their own Scoutbook accounts in Internet Advancement. Also, if I send an email to a Scout through Scoutbook without using BCC and copy myself, their email address shows up in the headers of the email, plainly visible. The same is presumably true with texts. And of course if the Scout replies, their email or cell number will be revealed in any case.

I think this info is from an alternate world where Scoutbook had its own messaging system (which was clearly planned at one point, given the “Inbox” function on the Dashboard).

This should be changed, as I presume we do not wish to mislead parents.

I was going to say “no you can’t, that is preposterous”. I went and checked and sure enough, you are right.

Not sure of plans, but some councils use a messaging feature where messages can be sent to the inbox. I asked for it to be removed and learned it is used by some.

Indeed, I think that you can sometimes see emails and phone numbers of Scouts without their own Scoutbook accounts in Internet Advancement. Not sure how that info got there.

Interesting! I didn’t know that.

Really, I wish Scoutbook did have its own messaging system; it would solve a lot of problems, like the recent blacklist issue, and, of course, the ability of leaders to contact Scouts individually.

Of course it would create a lot of problems too.

Regardless, this wording should be changed, or perhaps simply removed.
