I am a commissioner and I was checking something and noticed a scout that I know is 1st class showing as 2nd class on the Youth Member Age Report for T252 C636. The youths BSA ID is 135707944. I know the father and he checked in SB and SB+ and the rank shows correctly as 1st class in SB and SB+. Is there an issue with the commissioners report or is this an isolated issue? How does this get fixed?
@JohnRennpferd that is a report to council so they can turn in a Membercare ticket
Ok, I’ll route this to the district commissioner for him to resolve. Thank you.
You need to work with a Council staff member to get a member care ticket opened. This cannot be done by another volunteer.
Thank you. Understood. The benefit of routing this to the district commissioner is that he has free time during business hours to gently inquire (aka pester) people to find resolution ![]()
It is helpful if you can be specific and include pictures when submitting the help ticket.
Good Morning Jennifer:
I am Johns District Commissioner,
The reason this was submitted to this part of the forums, is because the issue is with Commissioner Tools. We submitted the issue to Karla in our council 636 and heard from Cyndi McAnear (Jira) <support@scouting.org> that they wanted a copy of report. ([JIRA] (HD-613050) Scoutbook Plus Assistance Request). The Scoutbook data is fine. It is the commissioner tools report that has the problem? See attached. This issue makes us question if the Metric Values are correct. In the first 6 months any conversations about the Metrics has not been very well received, and errors will make it potentially harder. We do not have access to the youth members Scoutbook data at this time nor really should we? Is this the wrong place to advise this problem?
Thanks in advance for any help or insight you can provide.
Randy

@JohnRennpferd @RandyCarr Could you please provide some examples of Scout member ID numbers and their rank that doesn’t match?
(No names, please)
For example:
MID #135707944 is First Class, but shows as Second Class on the “Youth Member Age Report
That is the example.
The Scout you mentioned in the ticket does have First Class shown in both Scoutbook and Akela. The teams that handle tools other than Scoutbook work only from tickets submitted via their Councils. Since you have already done this you will need to work with your Council to provide any data requested in the ticket.
At this point, we are going to drop any further action on this, maybe at this young persons next rank it will correct. My councils people have been advised to drop it. The parent should not have to worry about reports that does not affect them. A metric tool IMHO, will only be as valuable, as the data represented.
Everyone thank you for your efforts on this. We never would have known about this if not for personally knowing the scout and parents. Hopefully this is just an anomaly and the reports are generally accurate for commissioners to use. Being able to analyze the rank structure and spread of a unit is germane to knowing if a unit has a good mix of scouts for the patrol method to work. It is also important to be able to snapshot a unit and track if the scouts are advancing which is another method of our program.
I understand the limitations due to resources and moving the online systems forward are of greater importance for the future state of our program management. I just wish we had gotten something more back other than just drop it.
