Accessibility: Dark Gray with Black type no-good for reading

Hi there. The new changes with Scoutbook Plus are good moves forward. The site is loading faster and permissions are easier to understand… I wan to give the suite of tech stack another chance for our troop. One thing that is holding me back though is that the Scouting app (Apple) has really bad color contrast and is inaccessible even to an able-bodied person.

Request: Raise the priority on getting a higher accessibility grade on the app. Notably, there is a bunch of gray on black, or gray on gray, and blue on gray/black with small fonts. It’s not accessible or easy to use.

@JenniferBeckmann - there is no requirement to use the scouting app at all. It is just for scouts and their parents so unit leadership is not a venue for it. There are two themes and it would seem you are on the dark theme.

Yeah I was trying to think where you were seeing it - the dark theme makes sense for that

Given the app has limited use and there are still critical issues and missing functionality with the Scoutbook Plus web site, which is also missing from the app, I recommend having everyone use https://advancements.scouting.org. Scouting America IT has limited development resources which are being used for the sites with highest use.

Ah yes my settings were on use default and change based on the brightness f my screen. I changed that and now it is in light mode, which is better.

However the calendar still shows in gray and for some reason the first week of the month dates aren’t visible. Still needs a bit of help on the accessablility side even in light mode.

Thanks all.

@JenniferBeckmann - as it was pointed out I doubt development time will be devoted to the app as it gets little use. I would suggest working on in advancements.scouting.org

Perhaps people don’t use it because it is not readable.

Anyhow. Thanks for your prompt replies. I have what I need for decision making.

@JenniferBeckmann - it is readable on my android phone in light theme, but again it is meant for scouts and their parents not for adult leaders.
