Starting yesterday (10/21/2023), I have been unable to access SB via the app. Can still do so via website. When I attempt to access SB via the app, I at first received a message that says I must be a parent registered to my troop to be able to access troop info. But I am a troop admin!!! So I closed the app and reopened. Now it says “we were not able to find a Scoutbook profile linked to this gmail account” But I was not trying to sign in with an email address, and I don’t have a gmail account anyway!
To use the app, you do have to be a parent of a Scout in the troop. If you were just a troop admin, you would not have access to anything in the app.
You may have more than one account. Please post your BSA ID and the volunteers that have special access may be able to see what is up.
Until yesterday, I had full access using the app, just as via website.
@MattPatton - the scouting app (red icon) is for scoutvand parent use not for leaders without a scout child. It is stated as such in the description in the app store
You seemed shocked that if you were a troop admin you would have access.
In any event, still post your BSA id.
I have been using it successfully for months, until yesterday
Not shocked. In your first response, you said “To use the app, you do have to be a parent of a Scout in the troop. If you were just a troop admin, you would not have access to anything in the app.” That is not true.
The Scouting App (red icon) has NEVER supported anyone except parents and Scouts. Have you been using the myScouting app (blue icon) in the past?
@MattPatton - i posted the exact app info from the play store. The scouting app is NOT for unit admins who are NOT parents of scouts
“But I am a troop admin!!!”
Your exclamations seem to imply you are shocked. As others also point out, being a troop admin has nothing to do with using the Scouting app. Being a parent in the unit is the key part. 3rd time - if you post your BSA ID, the volunteers can confirm if you have more than one account.
Could you be referring to Internet Advancement? It has a color scheme that looks somewhat similar to the Scoutbook mobile app, and you would have access as a Troop Admin.
Really? Then how is it I have been using it successfully for the past 6 months?
I can assure you what you have been using for the past 6 months is NOT the Scouting app. As I said before it has NEVER supported anything more than parents and Scouts. Even as a Scoutmaster and troop admin, I can only see my own children in the Scouting app.
Not trying to provoke an argument here; just telling you the truth. The red one, not the blue one. That is the one I have been using for several months now to conduct all manners of Scoutbook business. It takes me directly to Scoutbook and does not go through my.scouting. At least it did, until last night.
@MattPatton What kinds of features were you using?
It is labelled “Scouting”, not Internet Advancement. It takes (took) me directly to the Scoutbook home page.
@MattPatton - i would really like to see screen shots of this as the scouting app if loaded from the app store does not take you to scoutbook home page i know because i have used the scouting app. And that screenshot i posted is directly from the play store
I marked reqs completed/confirmed for my scouts (I am ASM).
@MattPatton - you cant do that in the xcouting app
