Approved merit badge requirements are completely unchecked

@amedwick

That is a message for a Cub Scout. What is the Scout’s Scouting America Member ID (no names)

Sorry, I misread the message. It is not a message limited to CS. We need the Scout’s Member ID to investigate.

@amedwick You might want to black out your phone number and partial address in the first screenshot. This forum is public.

That’s actually the council office address :joy:

@amedwick - and you have the merit badge counselor role selected in the upper right ? The member id of the scout would be helpful in this case. I suspect something is up with the scout membership for it to post that not eligible notice.

So, I was able to get it to work by going into “Bulk Actions” and then “Merit Badge Bulk Entry,” which is not my regular workflow, but it did get the job done. I then had to approve everything on the “To Approve” tab. It is not very intuitive.

You should have been able to update the MB the way you originally tried. Unfortunately since you have done so another way we cannot determine what happened. If you encounter the message again please contact us so we can see the issue happening.

Have no fear, I am sure it will still be a problem for the next merit badge I am asked to be the counselor on.

I think if you look at the logic behind why the DISABLED icon and blue error message appear, that might provide some insights in the meantime.

@amedwick We would need the Scout’s member ID number in order to take a look.

@amedwick

We are just volunteers and can only relay issues to the developers. They will not just “investigate” a message. They want to see the issue occur. Until we can give them a case when it is occurring, they will not do anything about it.

I don’t know what else to tell you. For every Scout for whom I am listed as the counselor, the checkbox function on the page where you think you would record completed requirements does nothing. The requirements are all marked as disabled; they all allow you to check a box, but no completion date box appears. There is no way to save your checked items. It sounds like this is not the behavior you wanted your developers to implement. The bulk edit page works as it should, which thankfully provides a workaround for this problem. If they won’t investigate, you need a better development team that can accurately produce a product that meets the design requirements. I can’t imagine I am the only person having this issue. If the way to record completions is only through the bulk edit function, then the checkboxes should be for display only. Yes, we are all volunteers, so it is not unreasonable that we expect the people getting paid to do this stuff to do their job correctly. If they are too good for that, then I am sure there are lots of people out of work who would gladly take their place in today’s economy.

@amedwick - can you provide member id numbers for the scouts

Emphasis added

Again, as Ed noted above, the SUAC folks are just volunteer scouters like the rest of us. If you think that there is an underlying process issue with how the developers are performing, or how national decides to allocate resources or prioritize issues, you’ll need to explain the problem and ask your council professionals to submit it to national through their contacts. The SUAC volunteers have neither control over nor selection authority for the development team.

If you are talking about these Blue Checkboxes they are always empty. Here you see (2) is Completed as Completed is under it (which is not ideal).

If you are trying to enter dates see this video

Is that a Scout in your own unit? I suspect the problem is that when the counselor is not part of the unit, permissions aren’t assigned properly, since it’s never worked that way for me. That video is exactly the behavior I would expect on that page.

hmmm - so this is from an MBC perspective? MBC approve has an open issue story right now - through this is not directly a part of it. Let me see.

Did you block out your info here?

You are missing the point. If it makes you happier, just replace you with Scouting America.

We have tons of talented volunteers doing tons of free work for Scouting America, and it just infuriates me when I hear something like, “they will not do anything about it,” unless it is presented perfectly to the people getting paid to do a job.

All you needed to say was that nothing will get done unless I convince some other people getting paid to talk to other people getting paid to direct their people, who are also getting paid, to do their jobs.

@amedwick do you have a minute for a screenshare so I can see the issue?

@amedwick I will send you a direct message > look at top right Avatar to find it > it will be a green envelope > it will be a private message channel with select members of the Scoutbook User Advisory Council (SUAC)

Thanks @amedwick - this is a 100% Legacy issue - he was going to legacy to get MBC Scouts and when he got back to SB+ for some reason the MBC Dashboard is not there and the MBs are non-functional - all I can guess is some URL navigation is messed up but it is reported
