Better color/symbol scheme for Merit Badge summary page

Can you come up with a better color or symbol scheme for Merit Badge status in a scout record? Looking at this list for a scout working toward Eagle (see attached screen shot), it is hard to see at a glance what the scout still needs. For instance, the scout has completed (but not yet been awarded) Citizenship in the Nation. That approved completion shows in the exact same blue banner as incomplete leader signed Merit Badges. Also, the word “Started” is helpful but if I (Scoutmaster) sign the blue card it changes to “Leader Signed” and drops the word “Started” which is what I really want to know - has the scout started work on this badge. Thanks for any help you can give to making this summary page easier to read at a glance and more usuful.

There is an item in the backlog to change the color so that Leader Signed and Approved are not the same color.

As for Started and Leader Signed, they both mean the MB is “started” in the Scout’s record but not complete. Started does not indicate 1 or more requirements are marked complete, just that the MB has moved from the full list of MBs to the Pending state when you look at the buttons in the MB section.

Leader Signed means the Add signature date has been clicked and a date entered.

Thank you for your quick reponse and explanation.

I am using SB+, but agree that the visuals are lacking or I need to get used to them. I still reference the SB page that I think shows everything you are asking for, just very different UI. Hope this is helpful while the color change is pending:

I second the color separation stuff mentioned above, just remember we all don’t see colors the same. A high percentage of males are also colorblind (see a shade off of normal) so using close variations of similar colors can be problematic. I personally use the symbol associated to the status: Star, Check mark, and sideways triangle instead of relying on colors.

Keep up the good work and lets be the change we want to see in Scoutbook+.

We, the SUAC members, do try to be sensitive to colorblind individuals. One of our members is an eye care professional so we typically run color questions by him. Unfortunately the development team seems to forget colors are not seen the same by everyone. If you notice other areas where color differentiation needs to be improved, please let us know.
