Welcome! This forum has a treasure trove of great info – Scouters helping Scouters! Just a heads up, though - all content, information, and opinions shared on this forum are those of the author, not the BSA.
The latest version of Scoutbook has a bug in reporting service hours, namely the time (am/pm) fields. The dropdown menu will allow you to select the time (e.g. 10am-12pm for a two hour service) for the initial entry. However, if you need to edit the entry, the system defaults to 12am in BOTH time fields and gives the error message “Error: end date must be greater than start date in the request.”
I’ve gotten around the system temporarily by bypassing the time field and clicking the box for “All Day Event”, then specifying the number of service hours the scout provided. Has anyone else had this issue?
@JocelynOei - i did see that on service hours outside of an event but the important data is the number of hours and people. The clock hours are not nearly as important.
@Stephen_Hornak, agreed! Capturing the service hours is more important. Just thought it would put it out there that the bug exists. Thankfully the “all day event” option is there to select, but it’s still a workaround. Until the bug is fixed, all service hours, including Eagle Projects, will need this workaround.
Error used to work before … “Error: end date must be greater than start date in the request.” Our service projects have multiple time slots on the same day
Jocelyn, I’ve had the same issue a few days ago. I’m going to try your work around. The other frustrating part is there no way to record and track unit activities. John
Are you talking about for rank advancement (i.e. “attend X unit activities other than troop meetings…”)? If so, I just direct scouts to track that in comments on the respective rank requirement in Scoutbook. After all, one of the methods of Scouts BSA is personal growth, and practicing the responsibility for tracking their own advancement activities helps support that.
ETA: On the unit side, the calendar can also be used to track attendance if there’s a concern about verifying the accuracy of the scouts’ record-keeping. Although there aren’t customizable types for events on the calendar, one could certainly look up the attendees for an event on a given date pretty easily (assuming that those records were kept).
I too received the above error but unlike (I think) the OP, I specified my times when creating the service project and upon saving, the time changed to 12a-12p. I cannot edit because I get the “Error: end date must be greater than start date in the request.”
I don’t need to select All Day Event because it saved (originally) as the 12a-12p already which is an All Day Event.
That happened to me as well. I didn’t realize it until I went back into the entry to edit it. You should still be able to go back and edit your entry but choose “All Day Event”. It’ll get you past the time fields. Then specify the actual number of service hours completed. It’ll still save as 12am-12pm, but the service hours captured should be correct.
