I am now listed as a COUNCIL for Merit badges, but when I change to my UNIT. It says an error and to post here.
Did you enter your unit number in the form Troop 0123 B? The unit must be in that format including the spaces and 4 digits for the unit number.
Keep in mind, all this setting does is hide you from MBC search for members that are not a part of the specified unit(s). It does not prevent anyone from connecting you to a Scout in another unit if they know you are an MBC.
Adding to Ed’s process comments, some councils don’t permit MBCs to limit themselves to a single unit or district. The software doesn’t explicitly enforce that, AFAIK, but I think that folks with council-level access can go in and change your visibility setting. I mention it in case it keeps reverting to council-level visibility as something you might want to raise in a discussion with your council registrar or whomever was delegated responsibility for managing MBCs in your council.
If the Council has prevented MBCs from restricting their listing to Unit and/or District, the corresponding selection on the MBC position page will be grayed out.
Thanks for the clarification, Ed. I didn’t realize it would do that. Our council has flirted with the idea of requiring MBCs to be “council-wide” in the past, but I don’t know that they’ve ever actually restricted it in SB/SB+.
