Delete Cub hiking/camping activity

Is there a way to delete the old hiking, camping and service hour activity logs from when a child was a Cub Scout.

Now that our son is a Boy Scout and these activities are required for advancement and merit badges, we wanted to use Scoutbook/MyScouting to track the his hiking/camping/service hours. The old Cub Scout activities are throwing off the totals.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Don’t delete them! Although rank and merit badges rely only on activities since joining Scouts BSA, some awards include all activities under the auspices of Scouting America (like National Outdoor Awards).

Also keep in mind that many requirements (like for Camping and Hiking MB) are more than just a total count of units (e.g. nights or miles).

@RobertCostantino Ask a Troop Admin to set the “Date Joined Scouts BSA” date in Scoutbook Plus. Then you can run the Activity Log Report using the Date Joined Scouts BSA, which will filter out the Cub Scout items.

Just to agree with Charley Hamilton. Please do not do that.

My son earned the National Outdoor Activity medal. That medal is now no longer available (per Commissioner’s letter that was just sent). BUT, the patch system for it is. There is an Arron On Scouting blog post where the guy who wrote that program states that ALL activities from Scouts are to be counted. From Pack, Troop, and Crew/Explorers.
I had a very difficult time going back and counting my son’s Pack activities that met the requirements. There are patch rockers for Aquatics, Camping and Hiking (among others). I had to go back and figure out what Pack activities he had done. The records you are referring to would have made that so much easier.

Cubmaster here so I can’t see how it’s working but my scoutmaster and I have discussed this in depth. My scoutmaster for our linked troop says that it still doesn’t work. Yes, the “Date Joined Scouts BSA” is automatically inputted when troop application is put in but it still calculates all camping done in Cubs. For ranks, merit badges, and awards he still has to look at every event instead of the total and he keeps a separate excel sheet and update with every campout, hike, or service project because scoutbook doesn’t have a way to separate the totals.

@ThomasCline - the date joined should be double checked on the scout profile page. I can attest that it will exclude the cub activities when properly entered.

@ThomasCline

If the system is adding a date joint Scouts BSA automatically, 99% of the time it is wrong. For example, if a Scout crosses over to a troop on 3/31/25, the automatic date joined will be 3/1/25 because Scouting America starts all registrations on the first of the month.

Go to the Scout’s profile in Scoutbook Plus and check the date joined to make sure it is accurate. If not, click on it to change. This can only be changed by a Key 3 or parent.

It is not automatically entered. Are you looking at the membership of the scout’s profile in Scoutbook Plus? The latter is what you want.

Spoke to my scoutmaster at our meeting tonight, here is what he said and showed me.

Yes, the Date Joined Scouts BSA is filled in and correct but when the Scoutbook+ Scouts personal Activity Logs is viewed from the scouts profile it still pulls in the Cub Scout events at the bottom of the page.

@ThomasCline All of the activities will be listed there, because some Cub Scout activities can qualify for the National Outdoor Awards.

If you only want to see the activities since the Scout joined the Scouts BSA program:

  1. Click on “Run Report” just below where it says “Service Hours”.
  2. Choose a start date for the report.
  3. If you only want activities since joining a troop, then check the option next to “Date Joined Scouts BSA”.
  4. Select the log options that you would like. For example, maybe you are only interested in the Camping Log entries.
  5. Run the report.
