Deleting a merit badge from a scout record

Hello,

I mistakenly added a merit badge to a scout’s record in Scoutbook and have been unable to remove the badge from the record. The scout should not receive the badge.

Thank you for any guidance on this.

@TobeyTrumbull What is the Scout’s member ID number? And what is the merit badge?

Hello Jennifer,

I responded to the email you sent regarding the question I asked. My response went to notifications@scouting.discoursemail.com. Please let me know if you receive that email.

@TobeyTrumbull what so it has bad Finished Date? Just go to MB Page > hover date till X appears on right > click X > unapprove if needed > and save.

There is currently no way to “unstart” a merit badge. It won’t cause any harm. Donovan provided instructions for clearing a completed MB.

Thank you Donovan, however this did not delete the merit badge from the scout’s records. Instead, the following message appeared after I went through the steps you outlined: “This merit badge has been counted toward the fulfillment of requirement #3 (Star, Life, or Eagle). The corresponding rank must be unapproved before unapproving this merit badge.”

This Scout has earned the Star Rank but has not completed all the requirements for the Camping Merit Badge. It was my mistake that I entered this badge into his records just recently but shouldn’t have. So sorry about this, and I’m hoping there is still an answer for correcting the situation. Thank you for any help, Tobey

@TobeyTrumbull

What’s the Scout’s Scouting America Member ID (no names)?

12622676

Camping merit badge needs to be deleted

Then you need to remove the Star date first - might need to clear req #1 if it does not. Then remove Camping MB Date. Another MB should auto replace it.

Thank you so much, this worked. The Camping merit badge is remaining in that Scout’s records, but I think it’s okay to leave it there because at some point the Scout will start it, and it will just be already listed in his record, so it will not need to be added at the time he starts the badge.

Many thanks again.
