Hello, my troop recently had a weekend camporee and the Scouts worked on merit badges and rank advancements. I was provided a csv download from our Scoutmaster (I’m Assistant/Rank Advacement), but I don’t see a way to import into Scoutbook Plus. Everywhere I look the info provided seems to be for Scoutbook Legacy and using the Feature Assistant Extension, but it seems both of those are going to be deprecated in the near future and I thought I saw the import feature was already added to Plus. So I figured I would jump in here and just ask what the new/preferred way is to import a bunch of rank advancement/merit badge requirements is.
And maybe I just don’t have the correct role/ability in Scoutbook and if that’s the case, I just need to know what needs to be changed so I can speak with the Council or the Scoutmaster and have them make some adjustments. Thanks!
@JosephTikalsky - first thing is that the feature assistant will ONLY import merit badge requirements and NOT rank. It is to be used in legacy scoutbook only. Was this a black pug or tentaroo csv
I don’t see that screenshot on legacy even with the extension installed. But the CSV should be from Black Pug.
@JosephTikalsky - I would remove and re-add the extension. It is also only chrome and Firefox on pc
I just added the extension. Never had it before. I couldn’t find it in the Firefox add on store, but I did find it in Chrome. I never use Chrome for anything, so shouldn’t have any issue with cache or other extensions interfering. I’ll try again and use Incognito and see what happens.
@JosephTikalsky - I thought you stated you had the extension
What I meant was I just added it this morning, while trying to troubleshoot this upload. You asked me to remove and try again, but as I only added it about an hour ago I figure that’s likely not going to fix it. However I did just remove it and re-added it.
Here is what my Legacy Dashboard looks like for these options.
@JosephTikalsky - is this an incognito session? I think that disables plugins. I would refresh the legacy web page to see if it loads the option.
This is not Incognito. Maybe I’ll try a reinstall of Chrome. I tend not to use it very often. But if I can get this to work for merit badges, is there anything I can do for regular rank advancements? My download has that included as well and I’ll have a group of scouts doing a TON of stuff at camp this year since they just moved to Scouting from Cub Scouts, so it would be nice to import all those reqs as well.
@JosephTikalsky - there is NO method to upload the rank info from the black pug export.
Hmm alright. The Scoutmaster, before he asked me to step in and do this for him, used to take an export from our week long summer camp and then do an automatic import into the system. It did merit badges, but also rank advancement stuff from the “Eagle Challenge” the new scouts would work on for that week to finish a bunch of those smaller/easy tasks from the first couple ranks. I’ve been spending a bunch of time trying to clean that stuff up since the import wasn’t always clean. Maybe he was using an extension that’s not approved. I’ll have to check with him I guess.
@JosephTikalsky - possible, but the feature assistant only did merit badge import from the start never rank items.
Yeah that’s fine, this question wasn’t necessarily aimed at getting Feature Assistant to work, but just the process in general to bulk update in Scoutbook. If there isn’t a way, then oh well. I was just curious.
@JosephTikalsky - your one choice is quick entry in scoutbook plus.
@JosephTikalsky
The recommendation for rank advancement is to use Quick Entry in Scoutbook Plus. When I was entering ranks, MBs and awards from Summer camp, I just used the last day of advancement work to record everything. The exact date is not critical.
Did you ever get the extension to work. I believe you have to go to “my dashboard” in legacy scoutbook for it to pick up your permissions. Speaking of, it’s possible you don’t have the right permissions in legacy to do this. We’ve otherwise been focused on the new permissions system.
