Summer Camp Rank Advancement Import

Hi Everyone,

I was able to import merit badge completion into Scoutbook Legacy using the Chrome extension. However, I don’t see a way to do so with rank requirements, despite those records existing in the CSV file.

Has anyone had success in doing this and, if so, can you explain how?

Thanks!

@StevenNutley - the import specifically stated that it is merit badges only

Thanks. I did see it specifically said it was for merit badges only. I just hadn’t seen the document you linked to, and was hoping there was a similar (and separate) way to import rank requirements. Thanks for the link. That clears it up. Quick entry it is.

@StevenNutley simple answer and logic. MBs at camp are worked by MBCs - so they say when a scout is done. Ranks, most units want the scout to review for the unit.

You may be aware that you can use the regular quick entry for this. Since there are only four ranks involved, it’s not nearly as tedious as the merit badges.

This is still incredibly tedious. I have 30 scouts who went to one or more camps, many of whom took trail to first class and completed 20-30 requirements each. But it isn’t consistent - some scouts missed a day or didn’t complete a requirement for some reason. As a result, their records are not the same and I can’t use quick entry without going through each report from each camp for each Scout. TTFC counselors are the same as the ones doing MB requirements, I don’t see any reason to trust them any less, so there is no need for us to review rank advancement any more than MB advancement. We should be able to import the data through the standard scoutbook system, not rely upon a 3rd party app in a specific browser. Or Scouting America should offer an advancement tracking solution to official council camps.

If summer camp is the most important driver of Scouts staying in Scouting, Scouting America should do everything in its power to make the process of going to summer camp the easiest thing to do. Currently I dread coming back from camp and having to deal with the data issues.

@CamDaly

You can use Quick Entry to enter data for a single Scout. This is how I enter rank requirements completed at camp, during Troop meetings, etc. It is also what I did before we had the ability to import the data from Black Pug.

There is work in progress to be able to import the MB requirements from Black Pug directly into Scoutbook Plus. We can request an enhancement to also import rank requirements. We do not know if or when Scouting America IT will schedule this for development work.
