In Positions Manager - getting "invalid request" when I try to expire a position

Our leadership has changed and it appears I have admin type access (I can update our welcome letter, I can see new applications and I have access to the “positions manager” but I still can’t expire positions and put new people in those positions. I get the message “invalid request” after I click “expire position.”

I’m using my desktop, Windows 11. Browser: Chrome. I have not cleared my cache and my member ID is 140569044, Timberline District, Cascade Pacific Council.

Thank you!

@NicoleMcMerrick - my initial thought is that the COR would be able to make those changes

I’m not sure our charter org rep has ever logged into the website - I believe his name says “pending” so I think our previous cubmaster must have input that information.

Key 3 can change functional roles but only the Charter Org Rep or Charter Org Rep Delegate can change registered positions.

Your Charter Org Rep will need to learn how to log in to my.scouting.org because online registrations and renewals of adults need to be approved there.

Can one of us other leaders be assigned as the Charter Org Rep Delegate? I’m thinking if so, the Cubmaster must have been that and that is who approves renewals, etc.

Only the Charter Org Rep can assign the Charter Org Rep Delegate but it can be any leader registered in the unit.

I’m getting the same Invalid Request trying to expire a position and I’m COR. This has been a problem for months and nobody fixes it? I’ve been away from the troop for a while and just coming back to help. Tech problems that have to go through Council to National continue. If you want people to volunteer, don’t make things unnecessarily difficult.

From what the Volunteers at SUAC understand is only a Council can “Expire” a registration - and even then it is kept going just in another or ghost unit as the individual has had for the time frame @BradleyPade . Council would understand the process better than anyone on these forums.

Thank you @DonovanMcNeil This is very frustrating and completely unnecessary. If that’s the case, the web site shouldn’t give me the option to expire a position.

Currently there’s me and another person as COR. I can’t remove the other person because her registration expired. I can’t expire her position because of the Invalid Request error. I can’t assign a new committee chair because it says I have too many people in COR.

That sounds like a Dumb grace period they worked in without thinking through consequences - SUAC Has pointed that issue out

Where are you seeing an option to expire a position? I’m a COR and I don’t see it. I wish I had the option.

Position Manager, Functional Roles tab. Click the dash in the circle next to the name.

Ah! That is for functional roles. I had someone that only took 24 hours to remove from a functional role and 24 hours to move to Unit Scouter Reserve. They had current registration. This was this weekend. So, the functionality is there, but it sounds like a bug for you. :frowning:

Since it was pretty smooth for me, with the person having current registration, I’d work with your council as something is up with their accounts. The council may need to enter a member care ticket to get it resolved.

I emailed our rep. We shouldn’t need to do this.

You shouldn’t. It sounds like a bug.

I did an inspect and this is absurd. You can’t expire a position if the person’s registration is expired.

“errorDesc”: “Functional Position Expiry date can not be beyond registration’s expiryDt”

First, I agree. Second, assuming this individual is within the grace period for their registered position, they should lose both the registered and functional position once the grace period ends.

The person whose position I’m trying expire had her registration expire 10/31/2024. How long is the grace period?

It was 2 months, but may have been increased to 3.

Thanks. Hopefully our rep can help us when he’s back in the office. We need to recharter and can’t until this is fixed.

I can see not allowing the position expiration to be after a person’s registration expires IF the person is currently active. But if the person’s registration is currently expired, you should be able to expire their position immediately.
