Welcome! This forum has a treasure trove of great info – Scouters helping Scouters! Just a heads up, though - all content, information, and opinions shared on this forum are those of the author, not the BSA.
Hi! Our Pack has had pretty much a 100% turnover of our senior leadership, and I (CORd) am having trouble updating positions in the Position Manager. Specifically- the old cubmaster is listed as “expired”, but the new one is already there, which causes errors because there are too many people in the position so it won’t let me save any changes. Same with committee chair, etc. How do I remove these expired people? They’re all greyed out. I asked my contact at council and she said the problem is that they’re expired. Ok, I get that, but how do I remove them? Also, the old cubmaster is only “expired” as far as cubmaster. He’s still “active” as a committee member (even though he’s left the pack altogether). How do I clean this all up?
Another update- I just went to remove some functional positions (unit advancement chair, and I click the “minus” icon, and it just says “invalid request”
Only your Council can assist with this issue. They need to open a ticket with BSA Member Care to have the issue addressed by folks at the National office.
Thanks! Is this a bug/known issue, or is it intentional? Doesn’t seem right that I should have to bother council with every roster change I need to make! Should I just send her a list of what the roster should be, and have her change it all at once? (We still have some den leader positions in flux…)
Grace period lasts until the 2nd of the 2nd month after the change.
Make a change of roster position or functional role today, July 25. The position with show expired June 30. The grace period ends August 01. An overnight process will move the person from the expired position, so they show as gone August 02.
Side note - When you change a person’s registered position, any functional roles will expire along with the registered role.
Your council registrar can override problems with more than one person in a one person role.
This expired position complication also affects training statistics, with a person counted in both roles until the grace period ends.
Use the position of Unit Scouter Reserve (USR) for registered folks that leave the unit before their registration ends. USR has no training requirements.
It is a holdover from when recharters could not be posted until after the last one expired.
Personally I agree with you. Now that everyone renews themselves online and is given 60 days notice, I do t feel a grace period is needed. If someone can’t renew in 60 days, an additional 60 days won’t help.
Ok that’s fine to give people some extra time to renew- but not being able to remove people who have left is a whole separate issue. (or, maybe I am just too impatient haha)
